Oswald Peraza deserves a chance

The New York Yankees right now are not a good baseball team. Part of why they are not a winning club is because of their bench. You can’t have starters on a Major League bench, but you should have guys who are at least league average. The J.D. Davis experiment with the Yankees was a risk worth taking but it is time for Brian Cashman to admit that the experiment has not worked. The idea behind bringing Davis onboard was to fill the first base hole left behind by Anthony Rizzo breaking his right arm, in particular against left-handed pitching. Davis in his career has a slash line of .254/.339/.771 with a .324 average when he put the ball in play. This season the 31-year-old veteran has a slash line of .209/.292/.664 with a .250 average when he puts the ball in play. The two numbers that are extremely alarming are the dip in almost 50 points of batting average and almost 100 in OPS. Simply put, J.D. Davis is not the same player the Yankees thought they were getting when they signed him

The Yankees didn't "Work in the Rain" on Seinfeld Night

When it rains it pours! The rain soaked away 38 minutes in the Bronx tonight and continued in the 9 th and 10 th inning as the Boston Red Sox storm back at the last possible second to steal the opener of a weekend set against the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium. Masataka Yoshida hit the game tying blast into the right field seats in the 9 th and Ceddanne Rafaela hit the eventual game winning home run into monument park in right center field in the 10 th . This loss comes at the worst possible time given the fact that Nestor Cortes was sharp throwing six innings and only surrounding a solo shot by Romy Gonzalez in the 5 th inning. This coming off the heels of poor starts from every starting pitcher over the weekend. Luke Weaver danced out of trouble to set the Yankee bats up for some insurance in the bottom of the 8 th they ultimately needed but couldn’t secure. With this loss, the Bombers have now dropped four in a row, and five consecutive home games, falling to 54-36, and t

Juan Soto Returns And Gerrit Cole gets closer to Cy Young Caliber

Juan Soto and the New York Yankees responded yesterday afternoon in Toronto with an 8-1 drubbing against the last place Toronto Blue Jays. After being inserted into the lineup at the very last minute, Juan Soto got the Bomber bats going with a single in his first at-bat, followed up by Aaron Judge’s 31 st home run of the season off the batter’s eye in center field. Soto returned after missing just his 5 th game all season and was his usual MVP candidate self. “[My hand] was a little swollen, but I think it was in a spot that I could help my team. I was feeling good warming up, and I know I had a pretty good chance to win a ball game today, so I went for it.” Soto had that first inning single, and two walks in his unexpected return. Even though the dynamic duo got the scoring started, they weren’t the stars of the afternoon. That came from two bench players that because of the recent injury troubles have gotten the chance to play. The first, in his best game in his young career was
