2019-20 NFL Over/Under Column

With the first game of the new NFL season fresh in our minds, overreactions flying a mile a minute, let’s take a look at my favorite over/under win totals for the 2019-2020 season.
After going 4-1 with my over/under predictions and 2-0 on my locks of the year with the Panthers and Eagles. With my picks taking a backseat last year, the over/under column that I did last year took the keys and drove everyone’s money to the back. Let’s keep the tradition going for the NFL’s 100th season. Spoiler alert this season is will be telling for the next decade.
Detroit Lions O (-140)/U (+125) 6.5 wins: UNDER +125
“New England Central…” Yeah right. Detroit’s year will continue to be far off in the distance. Matthew Stafford is the only thing the Lions have going for them and he might not be 100% to start the season. On top of dealing with his wife’s brain tumor (which is where everyone’s attention should turn, hopefully she gets well soon).
This season for Stafford and the Lions will be reminiscent of Stafford’s rookie season, just without Calvin Johnson.
Having to play Chicago and Green Bay twice a year will be four automatic losses, plus having to play Philadelphia and Dallas. There is nothing in Detroit, except for Matt Patricia screaming into a void about how “good” they will be without any structure in place, or anything at all. Like Miami drive the under bet to the bank as fast as the legal speed limit allows.
Pittsburgh Steelers O (-134)/ U (+105) 9 wins: OVER -134
Everyone associated with the Steelers feels validated with the recent news with Antonio Brown. They also get to flaunt and stunt, if they choose, with Brown standing on the sideline in Patriots garments.
The infrastructure in Pittsburgh remains strong as steel, Juju will have a strong year as number one, and continue their dominance over the AFC North. Even with the defense not as strong as many would like—the offense will carry them to an over. Pittsburgh is like New England, bet on them to come through until the wheels fall off.
Atlanta Falcons O (-110)/U (+100) 8.5 wins: UNDER +100
Short everything Atlanta. We’ve seen this show before and at their best it gave up the biggest comeback in Super Bowl history. The entire preseason was focused on getting Julio Jones back in pads after a prolonged hold out.
It took Atlanta until the last moment to get a deal done with Julio down by the schoolyard, oh and not to mention, they also lost Tevin Coleman in the offseason to San Francisco, there goes a huge aspect to your offense. They are healthy this year, but so is Tampa Bay and New Orleans. Atlanta also got screwed by the schedule makers this year with five straight division games in the middle of the season. Those five weeks are their season and I don’t trust any team in the league to survive five straight weeks of divisional battles. An even .500 season for the Falcons will be their final tally in January and heads will roll.
Indianapolis Colts O (-105)/U (-106) 7.5 wins: OVER -105
Even with Andrew Luck walking out on the Colts at the 11th hour for the upcoming season and deciding to put his life above the success of the Colts, I still like the Colts to hit the over on their win total.
Jacoby Brissett is good enough to this team, which is a borderline playoff team without Luck, and can be at his best half as good as Andrew Luck. The rest of the roster are still playoff caliber—unless every Indianapolis Colt got Space Jam’d as Andrew Luck collected his things and filled his retirement papers. I don’t understand why everyone is shorting the Colts, this team was one of the best at the end of the year last season, Brissett was in the quarterback room all year, watching and learning from Luck. The Colts will be fine and so will your wallets taking the over on the Colts.
Miami Dolphins O (-125)/U (+110) 4.5 wins: UNDER +110
You could not drive fast enough to the bank to cash in this Miami pick. I’m in complete shock that the under is still getting you money, this should be -5,000. Miami just traded away their safety blanket Laremy Tunsil to the Texans along with Kenny Stills who was their leading receiver. Stills was reportedly going to get cut. They traded for Josh Rosen who couldn’t beat out Ryan “Fools Gold” Fitzpatrick for the starting quarterback job.
On top of that, the play in a division with the Patriots who are going to destroy them twice this season and with Buffalo and the Jets who are looking to make 2019 the first year of a trend in the positive direction. They have no building blocks and are taking a NBA lottery team approach to tanking this season. If you are a Miami Dolphins fan here is your voucher to take a year off from this horrendous team and route for someone else. My uncle has already jumped ship and so the rest of Miami should follow suit in evacuating Hurricane Dolphins.
