With Game 3 of the NBA Finals tomorrow at 9PM EST on ABC; Lebron and the Cleveland Cavs are against the ropes and one punch away from facing elimination at home. This is the same team that lost 110-77 and gave up on Sunday in San Francisco. I will not go into detail about Game 2, because frankly the Cavs just gave up. I have never seen a team just not care about an NBA Finals game like Cleveland did on Sunday. When Lebron was subbed out with the Cavs down twelve, and the Warriors pounced on the opportunity to ice the game—and that’s exactly what they did. Yes, Draymond and Klay did not miss that entire quarter scoring twenty-eight and seventeen for the game respectively, meanwhile Curry was sitting on the bench. Green also chipped in with seven rebounds and five assists. If I was a Cavs fan I would not only be worried about a possible sweep, but I would worry about Lebron possibly leaving again. From the performance in Game 2 it seems like James is the only one who actually wants to win a championship.
J.R. Smith is already on vacation in God knows where, Kyrie Irving has not really shown up—shying away from the pressure moments. Kevin Love has hit a couple and grabbed a handful of rebounds but that is about it. Tristen Thompson played excellent in the first half, really the first time all season that he has looked like he deserved the contract that he signed this past off-season. Lebron should be looking around the locker room asking himself if this team is truly different than the team the team he left back in 2010. I understand that he has made it to the Finals in each of the past two seasons, but I put an asterisks on these past two seasons due to the talent in the Eastern Conference. The East is a cake walk for any team that has Lebron right now, and will continue until a Superstar like Durant, Westbrook, or Curry join the East.
With only about twenty-nine hours until tipoff Cleveland needs to make drastic changes to the rotation and the way that they are playing basketball. Golden State is just playing on another level that we haven’t seen for a couple of months; and Cleveland is just not ready for the level of intensity, energy, and focus that the Warriors are playing at right now.
Don’t miss Game 3 on ABC tomorrow at 9PM EST!
