The Ringer

The Ringer
If you don’t know who former ESPN employee Bill Simmons is, I encourage you Google him right now. If you do know him; you know that he is a huge Boston sports fan. He also is a big NBA fan and his twitter is nothing short of an extension of the bleacher report twitter page. Simmons is launching a tv show on HBO this month on June 22nd called Any Given Wednesday, he also just launched a website called The Ringer, and he has been doing a free podcast called the Bill Simmons Podcast which can be found on iTunes, Soundcloud, Google Play among others. Simmons has also launched seven other podcasts to go along with his own with his writers at his new website. Simmons very own podcast has been airing for just over eight months now. His family of podcasts are very good and interesting.
Simmons who is forty-seven, was let go from ESPN about a year and half ago after the company decided not to pick up his contract. Pissed off took some time off for himself and his family. ESPN lost one of their most productive and versatile employees; Simmons was the driving force behind one of ESPN’s shows 30 for 30 as well as a new sub-website named Grantland, that Simmons launched just a few months before he was let go. Not only did he do that, but Simmons was one of the anchors on ESPN’s NBA Countdown—which is ESPN’s pre-game show to all of the basketball games that they air, along with later doing a show with co-anchor Jalon Rose. Honestly I could see that ESPN was shoving Bill Simmons out the door slowly. He would be on the countdown less; with his show with Rose airing on times that would have the least amount of viewers.
Obviously his career wasn’t done and still had talent—so after some convincing and meetings with former coworkers at Grantland, Simmons decided to launch a podcast and begin making a website. While building this website the founders of The Ringer emailed out a daily newsletter.  that stood in for the entire site and gave readers and fans just a taste of what the new site would be like. On the podcast Simmons has friends, ESPN rival personalities, sports stars, and a variety of different celebrities and media personalities.
Today makes ground zero for The Ringer website and I assume many champagne corks flying for Simmons and his trusty crew. You can view the website for yourselves, and while you’re there take a minute to follow me. I will be posting the same articles on the ringer that I will be here, however, I will have friends post different types of articles that range from music, video games, tech, and a different opinion on the entire sports world.
