Day 191
Fresh Start_191: Back to back?
The Cavilers just signed
a winner on Monday afternoon. Deron Williams may not be the same player that he
was in his Utah days or his early days in Brooklyn, but he is still a
difference maker for Cleveland. Williams has never went past a Conference Final,
but he still has qualities that Cleveland will get out of him. Williams has
also started every playoff game that he has been a part of, so that might
change, but his performance won’t.
If you remember Williams
dominated in his last true playoff test against the Hawks in Brooklyn. During
that game Williams scored 35 points going 7-11 from 3-point land, lead the Nets
to a win in a must win game, and had the dagger. Williams was once considered
one of the best point guards in the game, while that’s well past Williams, he
is shooting 35% from behind the arch. Lebron James said to the Cleveland
Cavilers organization that he thought the team needed another play maker, and
they get that in a way with Deron Williams as the backup point guard. The
lineup also gets interesting when J.R. Smith and Kevin Love get back given the
fact that the Cavs can truly have a small ball lineup that can compete on
different levels in the playoffs.
Williams wants to win in
Cleveland and in his 10 years in the NBA this is the best chance to actual win
a title. This season Williams is averaging 13 points, 7 assists, and 2 rebounds
and brings that to Cleveland which will benefit Ty Lue in building his
rotations. Williams will be able to handle the offense when James and Irving
are off the floor. Lebron gets his backup guard and will make him apart of the
family in no time.
Also, the Cavilers
reportedly are pursuing a deal with former Warrior and Dallas Maverick Andrew
Bogut. Bogut will give Cleveland the necessary height to be able to play a
bigger lineup in case they play Boston in the playoffs. It will also benefit
Cleveland when they make the NBA Finals against presumably the Golden State
Warriors. The Cavilers are going on the offense in the second half of the year
and post trade deadline. The moves that Cleveland is trying to make at the
moment are moves that Championship teams do in the NBA.
