So with the NFL offseason wrapping up soon the New York Jets are finalizing the team for 2016 going into OTA’s. Meanwhile the Jets yet have another Quarterback controversy (what’s new) for 2016. With Geno Smith, Bryce Petty, and Christan Hackenburg all under contract as of today are the Quarterbacks are going into a season which is absolutely crucial to the New York Jets. With a dominate defense who are not getting any younger along with aging superstar receivers in Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker. Geno has had multiple chances in the NFL and shows time and time again that he just can’t play in the bigger, faster, stronger NFL. Bryce Petty has been groomed in the Jets system but has yet to even throw a pass in the league. Finally, this year’s second round draft pick Christan Hackenburg who is if you look at the numbers is the college version of Geno Smith, and no not the college Geno, the pro version of Geno Smith. Hackenburg in his three-year college career has a completion percentage of 56.1% with 48 touchdowns and 31 interceptions and 6.8 yards per attempt. Geno in his first three years in the pros has 57.9% completion percentage with 27 touchdowns and 37 interceptions and 27.5 yards per attempt. I do not see how Hackenburg can be the answer in New York with the problem not existing at the end of January. What the Jets need to do is re-sign Ryan Fitzpatrick and contend to win a title as long as he is under contract. Fitzpatrick could be a Carson Palmer or Philip Rivers level quarterback with the weapons that he has at his disposal.
But, and there is but with the Jets, this is one of the worst off-season’s for the Jets in recent memory and it has nothing to do with the personal that they have signed. What I am talking about is the signings of Brock Osweiler and Chase Daniel. Osweiler signed a four-year seventy two million dollars contract with thirty seven million guaranteed, with Daniel inks a three year deal worth twenty one million dollar’s worth up to fifthteen million guaranteed. That damaged the Jets because of the season that Fitzpatrick had in 2015. Fitz broke the Jets franchise record for touchdowns, and threw over one thousand yards to both Marshall and Decker. Even though the Jets missed the playoffs by one game with the final week loss to Buffalo; this team is a borderline playoff team and one of the most improved teams going into 2016. If the Jets sign Ryan Fitzpatrick they will win the AFC East and have a strong chance to win the conference championship and contend for Superbowl Fifty one.
