Honest Review #2.2

Honest Review #2.2: Where was Heidi when you needed her?
As expected, the Jets laid an egg in Oakland against a Super Bowl contending team in the Raiders. Derek Carr didn’t light the stat sheet with yardage but he meticulously picked apart this Jets defense that didn’t even record a quarterback hurry or a hit on Derek Carr all day.

The defense hustled but looked as if they didn’t want anything to do with this Raiders offense. Now that could be due to the way the game was being called by the officials, but not showing much fight until the game was out of hand is just one reason why teams will just have their way with gang green this year.

The offense, well it was pretty much all Jermaine Kearse. Jets fans knew what Kearse could do before Mike Maccagnan pulled the trigger to bring him to Gotham. Kearse looked good, he played 49 of the Jets 54 offensive snaps for 4 catches, for 64 yards, and 2 touchdowns. Other than that, the Jets just didn’t know what to do on offense. I don’t know why Todd Bowles used all three of his running backs today, but he did. Personally, I think Powell should be the feature back with Forte being a scat-back type of roll. McGuire looked okay only rushing the ball 6 times for 29 yards, catching the ball once for 7 yards, and being out there for a total of 12 plays. John Morton showed a good game plan in the first half when the game was actually competitive. After that, the Jets just freelanced and didn’t what seemed like picked plays out of a hat and hoped it worked.

Something I hoped for in this beating was to give some live action to Bryce Petty. Petty needs to get out there, even if it is garbage time and throw some live bullets to see if they actual have something at the back-up QB position. Because, whoever the quarterback will be next year for the Jets, you still need a competent quarterback backing up in case of injury. What better time to give Petty that opportunity than when you are down 42-13?

With the bad being extremely bad with all the missed tackles, sloppy protection of McCown, and turnovers the Jets showed in the first half that if EVERYTHING goes their way for an entire game, they could possibly steal a game from one of the lesser teams in the NFL. It just so happens that the Oakland Raiders are not that. But, 0-2 is ever closer to the first overall selection next April so, Let’s go J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS!
