Recruiting Wire- Claustrophobia
The way this college
basketball season is going is insane. I don’t remember when the teams in the
Top 15 are so close together—it’s getting claustrophobic.
It is extremely early in
the season and this is to be expected with the amount of young teams in college
basketball right now. The youth on the floor right now is at a level that
college hoops has never seen before. There about 30 guys right now that deserve
the player of the year. And every team inside the Top 15 are flawed in their
own right; so every team can go down every single night. That’s why the
Nova-Gonzaga game tonight in Madison Square Garden tonight is so attractive.
With that said there is
not much change in the Top 25 this week:
1.
Duke
2.
Kansas
3.
Michigan State
4.
Villanova
5.
Florida
6.
Wichita State
7.
Texas A&M
8.
Kentucky
9.
Norte Dame
10. Miami
11. North Carolina
12. Gonzaga
13. Xavier
14. Minnesota
15. Virginia
16. Arizona State
17. Cincinnati
18. West Virginia
19. Seton Hall
20. TCU
21. Purdue
22. Nevada
23. Baylor
24. Tennessee
25. USC
With big games for Duke,
Michigan State, and Kansas last week and it doesn’t get any easier from here on
out. With young there will be a learning wounds for teams like Duke, Michigan
State, and Kentucky. It’ll happen, if you don’t believe me, ask yourself if the
Duke, Kentucky, or Michigan State teams of old with play around no-name
programs for so long. It doesn’t take this long for Coach K or Izzo this long
to implement their system over years past. But, this makes the games watching
from the couch more exciting, and an overall event.
With that said, the underappreciated
performance of the week comes for the United States Naval Academy. I know this
isn’t college football, there might be a pure scorer playing for Navy. Senior
Guard Bryce Dulin had a career night for the Midshipman. Dulin played 33
minutes and had an efficient night. Going 8-12 (4-6 on threes) and 10-11 from
the free throw line is a prototypical way to get 30 points. I know it was
against Delaware, but it’s a D1 program. It’s also the Navy basketball program
which is not one of the cream of the crop D1 Men’s basketball program and if
that program can produce anything—not only will it be overlooked but it needs
to be brought to our attention because everything these men do for our country.
Thank you for what you do for our country Mr. Dulin and everyone on the
Midshipman roster, enjoy your time on the court.
