Day 9

Fresh Start_9: Colin Kaepernick
Oh Brother… Where do I begin with this story? If you haven’t heard; recently San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick has started his own protest on the National Anthem. Yes, you read that right, Kaepernick is not standing during the National Anthem before every game. What the San Fran QB is protesting is the lack of equal treatment toward African Americans in the United States. Which to me doesn’t really make a valid protest; at least not for the cause that you are trying to help. What you are doing Colin is not helping the Black Lives Matter movement nor it ever will. You may think you are protesting the country to help a cause that is near and dear to your heart like some many others but you aren’t. What this is doing is causing an unneeded distraction to the thousands of voices that are imploring for equally treatment.
The stance that you are taking is ridiculous and shameful for a man in your position. Look at what players in the NBA are doing to combat this. Those players being Lebron James, Dwyane Wade, Carmelo Anthony, and Chris Paul; and they went on National Television on the ESPY’s on ESPN and voiced their opinion the topic. And that is a great way to voice awareness for the cause and if you want to volunteer time, or donate money that is something that could also be very helpful. Yes, I understand that this is a peaceful protest, but it is not the correct way to conduct yourself.
Do not make stupid judgement mistakes like not standing for the National Anthem, because not only are you making yourself look like a fool, but you are letting down all of the other players who happen to be black; and not standing beside your fellow man and taking on the subject like an adult.
