2017 Week 9 Sunday Game Ball
On a week where the Jets
played on Thursday, the Patriots and Steelers had a bye week, and the product
on the grid iron looking like it did last year—it was a tough Sunday to watch
for a casual football fan.
On a Sunday after the
game lost the newest young star, Deshaun Watson, to a season ending non-contact
ACL injury; the NFL needed a good week. The week that we got was instead a week
where we saw two teams put up 50 points, a week where probable playoff teams
lost games they shouldn’t have lost, and three fights on the field.
I cannot remember a week
of football where three fights broke out on a specific Sunday. So far as I am
writing this, Mike Evans has got suspended for one game, A.J. Green and Jalen
Ramsey will not be suspended, and there has been no word on who will be suspended
in the incident in San Francisco. For me, this is just another example of the ineptitude
of the NFL league office. How do you not suspend both A.J. Green and Jalen
Ramsey? This was the worst fight on the field since the Andre Johnson and
Cortland Finnegan in 2010. I would have suspended both players three games and
$10,000. Same to Evans and anyone who was in the scrum in San Francisco. A statement
must be made to the players about what type of personal conduct will be tolerated
in the league, and this type has no place in the game of football or sports for
that matter. In a season where the happenings of the league office has been put
under a microscope, the NFL (once again) has not done themselves any favors.
Roger Goodell needs to be
relieved of his duties because he is just a joke of a commissioner. Every single
situation that comes across Goodell’s desk is comparable to just handing a baby
a hand grenade. The inability to handle suspensions for fighting on the field
is just another topping on top of the poop sandwich that is the National
Football League.
Bringing some light on an
overall tough Sunday of football, without further ado, here is the game ball
for Week 9. There was a couple good games yesterday [Washington-Seattle,
Atlanta-Carolina, and Kansas City-Dallas]. If you like scoring; you had two
50-point games to watch during the 1PM EST games. My game ball goes to
Philadelphia Eagles Running Back Jay Ajayi. Ajayi is the newest member of the
best team in football, the Philadelphia Eagles. Ajayi got to Philadelphia on
Tuesday after being traded at the trade deadline. Ajayi is the only player that
played following the trade deadline and played well. He didn’t have a career
day, but being that he just got to the team five days before a game against one
of the best run defenses in the league, the Denver Broncos. Denver kept one of
the best young running backs, Kareem Hunt, to 46 yards on 22 attempts and kept
him out of the endzone. Jay Ajayi ran for 77 yards on eight rushes and a
touchdown. This a nice stat line in a trumping by Philadelphia on a Sunday that
will always be remembered for the fights that have been mishandled.
