Day 199

Fresh Start_199: The Quarterback Carousel
With the news of Kirk Cousins asking for a trade out of Washington, and the quarterback market drying up, the question is where in the world will Cousins play next season. Owner Dan Snyder and General Manager Scot McCloughan could decide not to trade Cousins and deal with an unhappy quarterback for a season and move on from Cousins after the 2017-18 season. Washington could select a quarterback in the upcoming draft and groom him as Cousins replacement. Or they could trade Cousins to another team. But yet again, where would he go?

With the 9’ers off the table with their signing of Brain Hoyer to a two-year $9 Million ($6 Million guaranteed) a Cousins trade is unlikely. The Bears might be able to trade for Cousins even with their signing of Mike Glennon (3-year worth at least $14.5 Million). Glennon is not a starter at this point and time in his career, he might even just be a career backup QB. There is nothing wrong with that, but if the Bears want to bring playoff football back to the city of Chicago, they would think of possibly bringing in Cousins on the right terms.

The Broncos could be a possible landing destination even with their supposed love for the two quarterbacks already on roster. The Broncos could offer a fourth and one of their own quarterbacks in the trade and get the replacement for the great Peyton Manning. The Jets are still on the table, although they would probably have to give up a high draft pick, which is something GM Mike Maccagnan does not what to do unless he is getting more picks.

The Kansas City Chiefs could part ways with Alex Smith and get Cousins who would be a better fit in Andy Reid’s system in KC. It would be a bold move for Kansas City but it is not out of the picture. In a year with a ton of available quarterbacks, Kirk Cousins is a very interesting puzzle piece and it should be fun to figure out how he fits into all of this. But, as a Jet fan I can only hope that Maccagnan doesn’t make a dyer mistake and trade for Cousins. But, with that NFL free agency is officially open and this is just part of the wonderful roller coaster ride.
