Atlanta makes a splash

If case you haven't heard by now the Atlanta Braves have traded shortstop Andrelton Simmons to the Angels for shortstop Erick Aybar, southpaw Sean Newcomb, right hander Chris Ellis, and cash. The Angels also get catcher Jose Briceno. Los Angeles is getting arguably the best defensive player in the game in Simmons. Simmons last year batted .265 with 4 homers, 44 RBI's, and 5/8 on stolen bases. That isn't why the Angles got him though, Simmons the has won two gold gloves in four seasons and the past two years has won the defensive player of the year at shortstop. The Angels add another stud in the infield and a player that can round out their lineup in the eight or nine hole.  Newcomb last season went 2-2 with a 2.75 ERA with 39 strike outs in 36 innings while in Double A Arkansas. Ellis also on Double A Arkansas last year went 7-4 with a 3.92 ERA with 62 strike outs in 78 innings. Erik Aybar batted .270 with 3 homers, 44 RBI's and 15/21 on stolen bases. Aybar a speed guy by trade but batted 5th in the Angels lineup last year. This is only the first week of news, stay tuned for a great off-season!
