NY in 500 II

What a weekend in Big Apple sports! Crazy plays, key injuries and good wins highlight another fun weekend being a New York Sports fan. The Knicks and Nets both won over the weekend with games that might show that the tides are turning for both of the teams. The Knicks first, Melo lead the 7-6 Knicks into Houston to face a very confusing Houston team. James Harden did his thing and had twenty four points. Kristaps Prozingis showed up with a double double. Prozingis also had twenty four points, but also collected fourteen rebounds to help the Knicks get a much needed five point win.
On Sunday in Brooklyn the Nets had a very impressive win against the C’s. Brook Lopez has a big part of that with a double double that consisted of twenty four points and ten boards. Jared Jack also had his best game of the year with twenty two points, four assists, and four rebounds. Joe Johnson, and rookie Rondae Hollis-Jefferson chipped in with seventeen points, and nine points respectively. Thaddeus Young also had a double double in the ten point win with eleven points and grabbed twelve rebounds.
In the football world a ton happened. The Giants had a bye week, but the Jets had an important game. Not so that it was a most win, but it could have made up some ground in the division. After a bad game against the Buffalo Bills the previous week, the Jets had another flop game in Houston. Late in the game against Buffalo, the Jets left points on the board and went for it on fourth down. In Houston they didn’t leave points on the board, but instead better field position. In both games the defense was playing unbelievable and stopped the opposing offense with some big plays the drive before. The Jets on about the forty yard line decided to go for it instead of pinning a young Quarterback back deep late in a close game. Instead the Jets did not convert and Ryan Fitzpatrick threw an interception looking to force a pass to Devin Smith. The Jets defense stopped the Texans on the next drive, and got the ball back with 2:29 left in the game. Two plays later Fitzpatrick throws his second interception and loses the game for the Jets. Todd Bowles in his post-game press conference said that they may have not gotten the ball back in time to have a chance, yes that may be true, but you have to punt in that situation. The Jets let another one go and that is very important if they want to make the playoffs.

The Yankees were in the news late Sunday night with possibilities of a trade for former second baseman Robinson Cano. Brain Cashman has yet to say anything about the trade but the Mariners General Manager Jerry Dipoto said that Cano hasn’t mentioned anything about being unhappy happy or returning to New York, later saying that “Everything is just peachy”.
