2017 Week 8 Sunday Game Ball

On a rain soaked Sunday of football, we have a clearer picture of who the contender are, of who might win MVP, Offensive/Defensive Rookie of Year, and ultimately the Super Bowl.

Five of the 11 games were in the middle of monsoon throughout Sunday and it made for some interesting football. We saw Matt Ryan fumble two snaps in North Jersey, Tom Brady dominate the Chargers yet again, LeSean McCoy run all over the Raiders, and the Colts and Bengals play a great game that nobody cared about.

The Cowboys, Seahawks, and Panthers edged their way back into the NFC playoff race; while the Bills kept pace with the Patriots and look to sweep the season series with the Jets on Thursday Night Football. Carson Wentz continues his candidacy for MVP with 211 yards and two more touchdowns. Tom Brady continues to look like he is 32 with 333 more yards and a touchdown against the Chargers. Brady might be a real dark horse favorite for MVP (can’t believe I’m actually saying Brady is the dark horse) as the Patriots continue to find themselves—and round into that Patriot way.

Deshaun Watson continues to look like the overwhelming favorite for OROY as he threw for 402 yards and four touchdowns in a late game thriller in Seattle. Marshon Lattimore, Jamal Adams, and Marcus Maye headline the canidates for the DROY race. Lattimore for New Orleans is the number one ranked cornerback in the NFL according to Pro Football Focus and has 27 tackles, a forced fumble, seven pass deflections, and two interceptions in first eight games. Adams has 39 tackles, two sacks, three pass deflections, and a fumble recovery; while Maye has 44 tackles, two pass deflections, and two interceptions. I liked Lattimore before the draft and he has paid off this far for the Saints. Maye to my surprise (I thought he’d be good just not this good this early) will be my runner up to Lattimore at this point, but Adams is just as talented (if not more) and will have something to say to that.

So, to recap before the game ball; my MVP pick will go to the dark horse 40-year-old Tom Brady, my OROY of the year is Houston’s Deshaun Watson, and my DROY is New Orleans’ Marshon Lattimore.

Now to the game ball for this Week 8 Sunday. It showcased Watson but the limelight was stolen by another extremely talented quarterback. That would be of course Seattle’s Russell Wilson. Not only did Wilson throw for 452 yards on 26/41 passing with four touchdown passes, but he led Seattle in rushing with six carries for 40 yards, but he also threw the difference maker. Wilson would connect with his Pro-Bowl Tight End Jimmy Graham with 1:18 left in the game. This was the pairs second touchdown of the game and would propel the Seahawks to a 41-38 shoot-out win at home.

With a divisional matchup, still to go on Monday Night Football, we will continue to see who are contenders and who are the pretenders in this crazy, wild, and wacky NFL season.
