Honest Review #2.4: Surviving disaster
Well that was a roller coaster. I know a win is a win but sometimes you just get lucky. The Jaguars played better than the Jets for 3 and a half quarters in regulation, a couple key drops and missed throws by Jacksonville gave the Jets a chance in OT. Josh McCown as good as he was in this games was a 45-minute quarterback, meaning he didn’t show up for the 4th quarter and literally almost threw the game away.

Leonard Fournette had his way with the Jets defense, but other than that, the defense was flying all over the field. Fournette had 142 all-purpose yards and a receiving touchdown. Kony Ealy had the game of his life with 4 pass deflections and an interception. Jamal Adams showed again why he was the 6th overall selection in the draft, Demario Davis was all over the field with 6 total tackles, and the Jets pass rush showed up big time against Botles, rushing a ton of throws. A couple of missed assignments lead to big plays including Fournette’s touchdown catch in the first quarter, and a big defensive pass interference call on Buster Skrine almost cost us the game in OT. This game however wasn’t the defenses fault if they lost, and they didn’t so an all-around win for the defense.

On offense, take away two long touchdown runs by Bilal Powell{75-yards} and rookie Elijah McGuire(69-yards} and there is no offense to speak of. In the 4th quarter Josh McCown turned the ball over twice in a matter of minutes. First a fumble on a swing pass to Powell that Myles Jack took 81-yards to the house and an interception that A.J. Bouye picked off that set up the tying field goal. McCown was shaky at best at the end of the game, and it might warrant Todd Bowels to at least look at Bryce Petty this week in practice. The Jaguars have one of the best defenses in the league and if they didn’t have Blake Bortles under center today, the Jets might be 1-3.

Lastly, the special teams where just suspect. I know Catanzaro hit the game-winner in OT, but not getting to the line and taking a delay of game penalty at the end of the first half is unacceptable, Lac Edwards only averaged 40 yards a punt including a shank in OT that gave Jacksonville a great opportunity. Yes, Edwards pulled off a nice fake punt before half that set up a field goal chance, but the aforementioned delay of game penalty had something to do with Catanzaro missing the kick before half. Ultimately, the Jets won a game that should have been locked up well into the 3rd quarter. But, a win is a win in the NFL no matter how you get it, plus Cam Newton and the Panthers pulled off a road win in New England beating Tom Brady and the Patriots, and the Jets go to Cleveland to play the Browns next week. It was a good week of football in Gotham, as always LET’S GO J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS!
