Honest Review #2.6
Honest Review 2.6: Robbed
It’s tough enough playing the New England Patriots any
given week—it’s even harder to battle the refs. You cannot tell me that Austin
Seferian-Jenkins fumbled the football with 8:41 to go in the 4th
quarter. The Jets got absolutely robbed by the refs and I will always put an asterisk
on this loss because of the absolutely ludicrous call that just proves why the
Patriots are the golden children of the NFL. With this call reversal it just
furthers my confusion of what a catch is. It all started with the Calvin
Johnson “catch.” You can pull up example after example of what you consider a
catch, just add this one on the long list.
Everything goes the right
way for the Patriots and furthers my hatred for the Patriots.
Now, while the call was
one of the worst calls in NFL history, there were other mishaps that gave the
edge to New England. The Jets stalled out in the middle of the 2nd
quarter with three 3 and outs and an interception that helped Brady claw his
way back into the game and tie the ball game before the half.
Having six penalties for
69 yards including a rough defensive pass interference against Jamal Adams that
gave the Patriots a first down inside the redzone to tie the game. Another
crucial penalty was on the final punt return that backed up the Jets 10-yards
and stalled out the final drive. Penalties like that need to be addressed and
stopped if the Jets want to continue to compete for the playoffs.
Not having a running
game, will also not help an offensive line that couldn’t handle the pass rush
of the Patriots. Forte and McGuire combined for 19 rushes for 44 yards and Josh
McCown himself ran the ball three times for 21 yards.
Some positives in this
game are the effectiveness that Seferian-Jenkins showed against the Patriots
front, the quick passes by McCown to get the ball to playmakers like Kearse and
Kerley. The defense (didn’t get any pressure on Brady) showed signs of being a
shutdown team and turned the ball over twice, which is something as a Jet fan
you don’t normally see.
But, there are mistakes
that need to be fixed next week, and will need to be fixed moving forward. I
also fully expect the Jets to protest this game, and for the NFL to step in and
admit that they messed up the touchdown reversal call on Seferian-Jenkins.
The Jets will wake-up
tomorrow at 3-3 and wondering what could have been if the call was upheld.
Using that as motivation it’s on to Miami, throw out this game tape, and forget
about what happened against the Pats. The Jets played up to pair with the Patriots
and should hold their heads as they go to Miami for yet another divisional matchup.
For now, as always, LET’S GO J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS.
