In Between the Pinstripes #35

In Between the Pinstripes_35: Gut punched
This one is on Joe Girardi, absolutely unacceptable not to challenge the foul-tip off the bat of Lonnie Chisenhall. The ball hit off the bat handle, which is a reviewable play and Girardi held the challenge flag in his pocket. A couple pitches later Cleveland Indian shortstop Francisco Lindor hit a grand slam off the right field foul pole to bring Cleveland within a run and swing the momentum completely in the Indians favor. Jay Bruce would tie the game two innings later, thus killing all the Yankee confidence and deflating the clubhouse.

Not only did Girardi not challenge a key play that would have killed the Indian rally, pinch ran Torreyes for Frazier which led to the end of 11th chance (which was the only chance the Yankees had in extra innings), but he took C.C. out two batters early, wasted Chad Green, and over pitched both Chapman and Betances. The Yankees had this game, and got out-managed, which might hurt the Yankees chances at the series in total. I don’t know why Girardi continues to be trigger happy when his starters give him length, and when he does bring in the bullpen, over use his bullpen—than not using the guys in big situations the following game.

There is no reason why we should have lost that game. Ride C.C. until the 7th turn the game over to Green in a clean innings, turn it to Robertson in the 8th, and let Chapman close out an 8-3 game in the 9th.

The bombers still have life and come home for two games in the Bronx. Hopefully Tanaka will continue his hot streak and pitch a great game going deep into the game because of how taxed our bullpen has been throughout the playoff run thus far. The bats will come alive in part to the crowd, hopefully using a good start by Tanaka as fuel, and the fact that their backs are literally against the wall, with it being an absolute most win.

People around the team said that this post season run has been a plus because 2017 was supposed to be a rebuilding year, but after losing a heart breaker like that, it doesn’t matter. Everything comes down to Sunday Night in the Bronx, and well the only thing we can pray for is to get to play another game on Monday.
