Day 287

Fresh Start_287: A Golden State of emergency
Is the NBA Finals over? I know it’s only 2-0 in the favor of Golden State and Cleveland hasn’t had a chance to defend home court. I hate overreacting to a series that hasn’t started yet (a team hasn’t lost at home), it just isn’t in my DNA.

The way Kevin Durant has been playing right now is just too much for the Cavilers. Durant was as efficient as a player could be (33 points on 22 shots making 13) with 11 rebounds, and 5 blocks. The Warriors shot better from 3-point range and from the charity stripe. Golden State shot 41.9% from 3 and 91.7% from the free throw line; compared to Cleveland’s 27.6% from 3 and 78.9% from the free throw line. Cleveland won the turnover battle and still lost the game.

Durant is playing the best basketball of his career, and you add that to the Golden State Warriors who seem to playing like the 73-9 team that we saw last year. Lebron had 29/11/14 tying Magic Johnson for the most triple doubles in Finals history. Lebron did everything he could to try to bring Cleveland back, and until the 4th quarter Cleveland had a chance to come back into the ball game.

Tristen Thompson needs to play like the Thompson that we saw in the rest of the 2017 playoffs, and not the 8 point and 4 rebound performance that we saw last night. The Cavilers need to be the complete team that made the NBA Finals and not whatever mess has showed up to Oakland California for Game One and Two of the Finals. J.R. Smith, Iman Shumpert, Kyle Korver, Channing Frye, and Richard Jefferson need to play at their peak performance if they want to have a chance.

Golden State doesn’t need any bench, even with lack of a solid bench, they just need to continue to play this brand of basketball that looks unbeatable. Lebron James who is considered the best player of planet Earth cannot beat this team by himself.

I’m trying to think what Cleveland can do to make this series an actually series. What Golden State has done in these two games shouldn’t be legal, it’s remarkable. This series is shocking because the play of Durant and Steph Curry is out of this world. I don’t want to think the Finals is over, but it does seem like it.
