Day 294

Fresh Start_294: Another one bits the dust
What else can the Jets do to “Fail for Sam {Darnold}.” With the news today that the Jets will not trade Eric Decker — instead releasing him for no return this afternoon. If there was really no market for Decker, then obviously, the right decision is made if you truly want to part ways with him, but with the production that Decker has done over the course of his career, I highly doubt that the Jets couldn’t find a suiter for Decker.

What most likely happened is the Jets weren’t willing to take back some of Deckers’ contract, but would instead take a $1.5 million dead cap hit for this upcoming season.
Quincy Enunwa will now be the Jets number one receiving option with Robby Anderson, Charone Peak, with rookies ArDarius Stewart and Chad Henson rounding out this receiving core. So, Bryce Petty or Christian Hackenberg will have a lack luster receiving to be nice this upcoming season.

I do not understand why the Jets would even consider releasing or trading Decker because not only do you give your two stop gap quarterbacks no room to grow with less than average receivers, but you put yet another hole in this swiss cheese roster. So, the Jets have to show that they have solved the secondary problem, improve a bad linebacking core, solve the quarterback issue, but now create a receiving core issue that wasn’t a problem in the first place. In fact, that receiving core with Marshall and Decker; was arguably one of the best in the league when healthy.
I can honestly say, nothing that Woody Johnson and the Jets do anymore can surprise me. 0–16 here we come!
