Day 298
Fresh Start_298: The Warrior-Cav “Rivalry”
Today is a travel day for
me, so if my articles the next couple days it is lack luster, it will be due to
a change in time zones, and just overall jetlag. So, I apologize in advance for
potential lack luster articles in the next couple of days. I am beyond excited
to get away and go on vacation.
And don’t for a second
think that I will stop writing just because I’m on vacation. I have set on a
mission that I would write for a year straight, and being this close, having
this much fun, why stop now? I will not be producing or releasing any new
podcasts until June 29th or be going on social media as much, but I
will continue to write about the storylines of the NBA, the Yankees, the Jets,
and oh yeah the Nets as well.
With the NBA draft coming
up, the continuing Major League Baseball season, and with mini camps ending for
the Jets, the sports news cycle gears for summer, and it could not be more
exciting. Just because the Stanley Cup is over and the Penguins are the
two-time defending champs, just because the NBA Finals are over, and Kevin
Durant and his Warriors have a championship—doesn’t mean there aren’t the news
just stops at a halt.
Perhaps the best thing
that happened today is the beef between Lebron James and Draymond Green. The
“rivalry” that isn’t a rivalry between the Cavaliers and the Warriors is just as
much a rivalry as the Yankees and Red Sox or Duke and North Carolina, or even
the Lakers and Celtics.
For whatever reason the
Cavs and Warriors don’t want to call it a rivalry—rather just wear shirts that
have double meanings, post jokes on Instagram, and debate “who started ‘Super
Teams’.” Enough is enough guys, just get the gloves out and brawl so people can
call this a rivalry. Draymond didn’t want to trash talk Cleveland after the
Warriors Finals win because “they are a championship team.”
Well, guess what
Draymond, so were the Celtics and Lakers during the 80’s, and they still hated
each other. The Yankees and Red Sox both have World Series rings in the
2000-2010 decade. What is so bad about having bad blood? As I said on my
podcast yesterday “the NBA needs it,” it also might actually need to be a must
for the NBA to distract the fans that hate the idea of “Super Teams.”
The reason the NBA wasn’t
the NBA until the 1980’s was because the lack of star power was the worst in
the history of the league. The talent level in the league right now is the best
that it has ever been, and will continue to climb. So, the has to be bad blood
somewhere in the league, and why can’t that bad blood be between the best of
the best in the league?
Have we seriously gotten
to the point as players and fans that we can’t spot or sniff a rivalry when one
is staring us in the face? It’s like the couple that we all know is dating but
just won’t admit it to the public. We all know that the Warriors and Cavaliers
are seeing each other outside of the arena, and are dancing the devilish dance
that is the rivalry tango. Come join the party you two, it’ll be a lot of fun
once you do.
