Day 290
Fresh Start_290: The Hottest Player in the World
What more can the
Cavilers do? What Kevin Durant is doing in this year’s Finals is his “coming
out party.” That is a difficult statement to use around Durant, because this
coming out party is not the usual. Durant is showing the NBA that he is the second-best
player in the league, and is on a mission to get his first title.
The look in Durant’s is
the same look Lebron had in 2012 when he won his first title against the
Thunder. Durant is hunger to put his first ring on his hand, stapling his name
into the history books. Not mention the passion that the Warriors are playing
with. It shows how much the Warriors want to dismantle the Cavilers and what
they are willing to put on the line to get that title.
Scott Van Pelt put it best
last night on his Sportscenter “It’s not just the physical energy of the pace;
it’s the mental energy of not being able to get rid of them… this is what Golden
State asks of you.” Lebron would go on later in his press conference to add
”This is the most firepower I’ve played against in my career.”
Draymond Green didn’t
play all that well last night—8 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 assists. This is
compared to Steph’s 26/13/6, Klay’s 30/6/2, and Durant’s 31/8/4. The Warriors
didn’t need Draymond last night, and for the last two quarters Green disappeared
on the floor. Lebron had 39/11/9 and Kyrie had 38/6/3 in a losing effort, and
it doesn’t seem like there is anything that Cleveland can do.
If you compare this Finals
to the 2012 Finals when Lebron answered all the doubters and won his first
ring, in Game 3 Kevin Durant had 25 points and 6 rebounds in a losing effort
and in Game 4 Durant had 28 points, while Westbrook had 43 points in a losing
effort—so does this seem familiar?
History is sometimes on
your side, and it seems like Durant’s time. Durant is the hottest player in the
NBA right now, and he is the best player on what seems like the best team in
the history of the league. If tomorrow is the last game of the 2017 Finals and
Cleveland gets swept, this year will just be remembered as the year that the
best team the NBA has ever seen got their revenge on Lebron and the Cavs on top
of bringing a title to your best player that came to the team for that goal.
This team hasn’t lost
since late March, and with Durant in the lineup from the start to end of the
game—you have to go back to late February to see this Warriors team lose with
the “Big Four” in the lineup. Instead of nitpicking things that don’t matter, sit
back and enjoy history, and we will discuss it after it happens. Take that for
what you will… yes I’m looking at you Cleveland.
