Day 289

Fresh Start_289: Renewing The Rivalry
Going to the Yankee-Red Sox game, I realized something about the rivalry… it very much alive. It might not look it on TV when you can’t hear the fans in the stadium, but in the ballpark, the bad blood is there. From the “Boston Sucks” chants to the “MOOOOOOKIE” chants from the bleacher creators in right field—antagonizing the Boston right fielder after he makes a bad play, the energy in the stadium is electric.

I’ve never been to a highly anticipated boxing match, but I imagine that’s the type of energy is the same energy that there is when the Red Sox and Yankees attrack when they are both in playoff contention.

I’ve been to Yankee-Red Sox games before, but not when they are both within a game or two of each other. That atmosphere is something special. Add the October feel of a playoff game on a rainy/cold June night and you have one great crowd.

The animosity of the fans having a genuine hate for each other just makes it even better. Now, there were no fights last night (to my knowledge), but it just doesn’t get any better than that. With the 8-0 shut-out tonight, after last night’s 5-4 nail bitter, tomorrow is an extremely important rubber match. It is always nice to beat the Red Sox, but it is that much sweeter to knock the Bo’Sox down a couple of notches in the division.

Watching the loss last night, I realized how much I do truly love the game of baseball, and there is no rivalry like the Yankees and Red Sox. I hope to be back in October watching these two teams to see who moves on in the playoffs, but until then, Let’s go Yankees!
