Day 313

Fresh Start_313: What is going on?
Honestly, do I know anything about basketball? I am now 0-2 when talking about the Los Angeles Clippers, and I have no idea what teams think anymore in front offices.

First, Blake Griffin, WHY THE HELL ARE YOU SIGNING WITH THE CLIPPERS? It doesn’t make sense for your career. You send a signal to the league that you are truly for the money and not a ring. You stay with one of the lack luster medical staffs, and you play with a roster that seems to be in a rebuilding phase. Nothing about this move is a win for Griffin besides the 5-year $173 Million contract is a win. Griffin won’t be on a title contender for at least two of the five years he is under contract, maybe not at all. I can’t wrap my mind around the move, there are at least 3 or 4 better systems in the NBA better than the Clippers for Griffin. Especially after the Paul George trade. I want to be in that room when Griffin decided to resign for the max contract. If I was in his camp, I would have been pleading for him to take less and go to Miami, Boston, Oklahoma City, or Toronto and try and win a ring. For the Clippers, WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU GIVE GRIFFIN 5 YEARS? What about his playing career this far guarantees that he will be healthy for 65% of that contract. Are you forgetting that he missed his first year after being drafted, the fight with the equipment manager, or his recent toe and knee surgeries? Griffin is an incredible player when healthy, and has reinvented himself as a passing power forward, but if he can’t stay healthy, how is he worth that much money for the next 5 years?  But, I guess, best of luck to Blake Griffin in Los Angeles for the next five years. Hopefully this doesn’t end with a buyout in 3 years.

Moving onto the aforementioned Paul George trade, how is a good trade for Indiana? You give up the face of the franchise for basically nothing. The Pacers in return got Victor Oladipo and Domantas Sabonis, no picks, no young players to turn into future assets, that is it. Oladipo is a nice player and is a past number two overall pick, but he hasn’t lived up that ceiling yet in his career. He is also on his third team in three years, so that shows his value to a team. congratulations to the Pacers for getting almost nothing back for a Superstar.

For Oklahoma City, I love the gamble. There is a high percent chance that George will be leaving for the Lakers next summer, but you give the reining MVP an All-Star to work with for a year. You also don’t give away the high-volume shooter Terrance Ferguson, you still have Taj Gibson and Steven Adams to work with in the post, and the great defense that Andre Roberson can give you. This is the best team that Oklahoma City could have put on the floor for 2017-18 and they are putting all of their chips in. Billy Donovan now doesn’t have to worry about the team when Westbrook is off the floor with George having the ability to just take over a game. Honestly, can we have a rematch of this years’ first round series of Houston and OKC at some point in next year’s playoffs, please it be incredible to watch. With this trade and the CP3 trade on Wednesday, the Wild Wild West is finally returning to form, and it should be great television to watch.
