Day 334
Fresh Start_334: Last Chance U Season 2 SPOLIER REVIEW
This is a SPOLIER REVIEW
Starting and finishing a
Netflix original can take a lot out of you. Watching the second season of “Last
Chance U” I have a ton of thoughts about the second season of one of my
favorite series on television.
The first season of the
show was thrilling, gripping, and it made you feel like you were a part of the
team. Seeing the rise and fall of John Franklin III, Ronald Ollie, and D.J. Law
shows how real and rare these second chances are. Now, with season two we get
to see that with De’Andre Johnson, Isaiah Wright, Tim Bonner, Chauncey Rivers,
and Kam Carter just shows you how people can change and how gripping football
really is.
I love this show, but I
have my concerns about the future of the East Mississippi Community College.
With Brittany Wagner, Quarterback Coach Clint Tricklett, Defensive Coordinator
Ed Holly, and having Marcus Woods step down from his Offensive Coordinator
duties, this EMCC football program will not be as good as it has been in recent
years.
Like the saying goes; you
are only as good as the sum of your parts (at least that’s how I think it
goes). And, Buddy Stevens might be one of the best football coaches in all of
college football at any level, but he needs this group of people to make this
team run. Wagner was the glue that held the football side and academic side
together, making many of the players who were difference makers eligible to
play for Stevens. Tricklett helped Franklin III and Johnson become the
quarterbacks that are now playing at Auburn and Florida Atlantic. Johnson might
find himself on an NFL roster because of Tricklett following him to Florida
Atlantic.
With the documentary
showing this EMCC team through the lens that they did; Ed Holly had one of the
best defenses as far as athletes in the entire country in 2015-16, and the
defense he had in 2016-17 was a good defensive line and a good linebacker in
Dakota Allen. The defense was one of the major contributors to the Lions not
making the National Championship for the second consecutive year. Not much
Holly can do about his job with the glaring holes in the defense. However, the
offense will suffer because Marcus Woods will no longer call the shots for
Buddy Stevens. Woods was clearly the cog in the machine that allowed the
players to get the most out of their talents and get the D1 offers that the
players need to continue their playing careers.
The EMCC Lions will still
be one of the best junior college football programs in the country because of
Stevens, but until they have a system in place with the same type of genuine
people around the fiery head coach, the program will not win a National
Championship.
