Day 314
Fresh Start_314: The ESPN Trade Machine
After the Second Annual
NBA Free Agency Roast; I sat up for a while on ESPN combing through trades for
Carmelo Anthony. It has been heavily reported that Melo still wants out of New
York even after the Phil Jackson firing. The Knicks want a trade and don’t want
to buy him out. Well, leave it to me to become the general manager of the
Knicks to get what James Dolan wants for their Superstar. Put aside the fact
that I am the catalyst behind David Griffin to New York and the possibility of
bringing the “Banana Boat” with him in 2018.
I took to the ESPN Trade
Machine to get Melo out of New York and make him happy. Here are the best of
the bunch that I could come up with that would make sense for both sides:
Melo to the Clippers- This move would be
the ultimate punch in the face to Chris Paul for not wanting to play for the
Clips anymore. If Doc Rivers turned around and dealt for Melo after trading
away Paul, it would be the ultimate petty move, but it could actually work. Now,
Doc reportedly had a trade sheet offer for Melo that he declined. The offer
sheet included his son, and mine does not. The trade would go like this: Melo
to the Clippers for Jamal Crawford, Wesley Johnson, Luc Mbah a Moute, Darren
Hillard, and the 1st round 2018 pick that they got in the Chris Paul
trade. This haul for Melo would give the Knicks an older group that would take
this young Knick roster and show them the ropes. It would also give the Knicks
a top 3 protected pick for 2018.
For the Clippers you get
Melo along with DeAndre Jordan and Blake Griffin. You also get to keep Lou
Williams and Patrick Beverly. Why would you say no if you are the Clippers?
Melo to Chicago-I
agree, this deal is unlikely, but Melo has been linked to Chicago before. Not to
mention, one of the banana boat members is already there in Dwyane Wade. This trade
would send Carmelo to the Windy City for Lauri Markkanen, Robin Lopez, Cameron
Payne, Denzel Valentine, and Jerian Grant. Grant and Lopez where productive
players for the Knicks already at one point, you get the seventh overall pick
in this past years’ draft, along with two good rotation players in Valentine
and Payne. I know it might not happen, but it wouldn’t be the worst haul back
for Melo.
Melo to Oklahoma City-I know, you probably think I’m insane. But it could
work. You would get Westbrook, George, and Carmelo for a season before George
leaves for the Lakers, than after that you have a year of Melo and Westbrook. This
trade actually does make a lot of sense. Oklahoma City would send Enes Kantar,
Doug McDermott, Alex Abrines, Jermani Grant, and both of OKC’s 2018 second
round picks. This haul would give you a good center in Kantar, a good swing man
in McDermott, and two rotational players, with two extra picks in next rounds
draft. This trade is the second least likely to happen, but it would give the
Thunder a “Super Team” and for the Knicks a good core around Porzingis.
Melo returns to Denver-People in Denver might now want this to happen, but
the core of Nikola Jokic, Gary Harris, and Will Barton still stay intact with Carmelo
coming back to town. Denver gets the return of their 2003 1st round draft selection, and the
Knicks get Emmanuel Mudiay, Kenneth Faried, Wilson Chandler, and Jose
Hernagomez.
The Knicks don’t get a
pick back, but the ability to have the versatile swing man in Wilson Chandler,
and to have Faried and Porzingis in transition—with the fact that the Knicks
getting Hernagomez back. This is the least impressive haul for Melo, but it can
still work with the personal under contract with the Knicks.
Melo to Oakland-Listen,
I know, people might just not watch NBA basketball every again. They wouldn’t
be able to keep the core four that they had this season that won the title, but
it would probably be the best team ever. The trade would go like this: Melo to
Golden State, and Klay, Ian Clark, Patrick McCaw, and Shaun Livingston going to
the Knicks.
This trade would put the
Knicks in the best position to succeed right away with Klay and Shaun
Livingston being put in the starting rotation. With Melo in Oakland I cannot
imagine what a Carmelo, KD, Steph, and Draymond on the floor at the same time. It
would break the NBA for a LONG time.
Whether these happen or
not, ESPN should just make the trade machine for the NBA and every sport at all
times for people like me who love this kind of stuff. Tweet me your best trades
