Day 364

Fresh Start_364: The Kyrie Trade
I’m going to end my thank you articles to get back to sports for a day. The Kyrie Irving saga throughout this summer has been the number one storyline in the NBA next to Lebron James possibly going to Los Angeles next summer to team-up with Lonzo Ball and possibly Paul George and Russell Westbrook.

Kyrie got his wish with a trade to Boston. The Celtics have traded away some of their war chest to get the All-Star point guard. The price for Irving was Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic, and the Brooklyn Nets 2018 first round pick.

The trade just doesn’t make any sense to me for either team. Yes, Irving does give Boston a better player than Thomas, but the Celtics aren’t as good a team because of this trade. Not only do you trade anyway your franchise player in Thomas, but you also give Cleveland a good roll player in Crowder, and a good pick in the Brooklyn pick. Potentially the Cavs could win the title and still get the first pick in the draft. But, the Cavs get worse on defense trading away Irving, they get a very streaky player in Crowder, and you don’t know what kind of Nets team will show up for the 2017-18 season. While I don’t like this trade, the Cavaliers won this trade with the amount that they got back for Irving.

The Celtics get a better player and turn the Brooklyn War Chest into Jason Tatum, the 6’ers/Kings pick, and Kyrie Irving. Is that better than keeping all the picks from Brooklyn? Only time will tell, especially if the Nets don’t lay an egg and actual show some signs of being competitive this season.

The 2017-18 will be exciting, and it is a new cast of characters for Lebron, plus you actually get to see what Kyrie can do on his own. The Celtics and Cavs will most likely still meet in the Eastern Conference Finals assuming something doesn’t go completely array in the East. But, we still have to play, and let’s see what happens.
