Day 170

Fresh Start_170: Cha-cha-cha-changing
Change is good, change can be scary, but ultimately you have to change. Major League Baseball is trying to change the extra innings rule, and testing the new rule change in Single A ball. What the MLB is doing is when a game goes to extra innings, the team up at bat will have a runner on second base in second base.

That is considerable difference to regular baseball and would be interesting to watch. This to me is like the rule change in the NHL to the 3 v 3 in overtime. The overtime rule change in the NHL is still weird to watch when you are watching a NHL game. I would assume if the MLB does change the extra inning rule, it would most likely only be during exclusively the regular season.

It will be interesting to see what type of runner will go out to second, meaning that is it a player that is next up in the inning or is it a pinch runner?  Will this rule pre-empt the managers like Joe Madden to look at their lineups differently in the 8th and 9th inning? I think this change will be different, and also interesting to see what happens in Single A ball, being that it’s the lowest level of professional ball. I would like to see this rule change to make a debut in Spring Training. Major League Baseball dropped the ball on that one for not having this rule change tested to have MLB players try it out.
