NY 500 XXIV

NY 500 24
The week after the trade deadline is a breath of fresh air given with the empty TV schedule that we are given when the NBA All-Star game. Diving right into it, the Rangers are 4th in the Eastern Conference only one point behind Columbus with 82 points. The Rangers lost a 5-2 slug fest last night at the Garden. The Rangers also had an exciting 4-3 OT win on Saturday night thanks to Mika Zibanejad. The Islanders have caught fire and are only one point behind Toronto for the 8th spot in the East with 68 points. John Taveras is leading the Islanders with 52 points, which is 25th in the league. It is an interesting time to be a hockey fan in New York.

Moving into basketball, the Knicks and Nets are an interesting Broadway play to be watching right now. The Nets are still the worst team in the NBA, but they have been decently competitive since the All-Star break. Don’t get me wrong, the Nets are not going anywhere any time soon, but is fun to see the Nets play good basketball for about 15 minutes a game. The Knicks on the other hand have a sense of urgency surrounding them in the Garden. Carmelo hit a game winning on Saturday, scoring 37 points against the 76’ers. Rose also scored 18 points and 5 rebounds. The Knicks shouldn’t have games like this against the 76’ers but it happened—the Knicks are also 4 games out of the 8th seed in the East, and they still have a fighting chance to bring playoff basketball back to the Garden. This isn’t what the Knicks would have pictured when they signed Noah (who is having season ending knee surgery), signing Lee, and trading for Rose, but it is the reality that the Knicks need to face. Porzingis is still out with an ankle injury, but it isn’t a season ender.

Spring Training is also here and it is fun to see baseball back on the TV and seeing the young Yankees is extremely exciting. I won’t jump out of my chair and be ridiculous, I know that it is Spring Training, but it’s brings me a smile to my face seeing baseball back on TV.

The Revis trial still haven’t happened yet, but the NFL Free Agency period is coming up extremely soon and that is exciting for NFL fans. The draft is less than two months away, so get your draft board ready. The NFL season has basically just ended in the grand scheme of things, but it is exciting to get ready for the offseason. Spring is coming, and sports are picking up, it should be exciting and I am so ready for it, let’s just wait and see.
