Day 189

Fresh Start_189: Move over Steve Harvey—the 89th Academy Awards have arrived
So yeah that actually happened. The best picture award card in last night’s Oscars got misplaced and presenters Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty announced the winner of best picture to be ‘La La Land’ when in actuality Dunaway and Beatty were handed the card for the previous award which was Best Actress in a Leading Role, which Emma Stone had won for her role in ‘La La Land.’

I cannot believe this happened and I feel for the entire cast and crew of ‘La La Land’ as well as Beatty and Dunaway. It is an impossible situation when you are literally handed the wrong set of cards, and for Beatty to be compared to Steve Harvey, the criticism is fair but in both cases, shame on the production teams from the shows themselves.

I am extremely humbled and shocked at the courage that Jordan Horowitz for understanding the mistake and having the courage to swallow his pride and proudly hand over the award after the mistake. I know he would have had to give the award over but taking the intuitive and announcing—defusing the situation and bringing the actual truth with the reveal of the best picture card with ‘Moonlight’ on it is truly remarkable and I think Horowitz should get some short of an award for that. Personally I think that ‘La La Land’ and ‘Moonlight’ now share that Oscar with the mishap that occurred.

On a more serious note however, a situation like this shows us that even the people in Hollywood can make mistakes and that mistakes happen. But, with that said how hard is it to hand the right card to the presenters? I also thought that the winner of the Academy Award kept the card along with the Oscar. Someone should get fired for this mistake because it shouldn’t have happened and is a mistake that shouldn’t have happened.

And hey, that’s why we watch these right? For that occasional mistake that Twitter will never let us forget.
