Day 172

Fresh Start_172: Fighting Tigers Baseball is back
Baseball is coming back to SUNY Cobleskill in the Spring of 2018, the school {a Division III school} is bringing back a school run team after not having a team for the past 6 years due to budget cuts.

SUNY Cobleskill’s Press Secretary James Feldman said “the baseball field will be renovated in the Summer of 2017, and the program will find a coach and start recruiting players soon.”  Feldman would also say “the President of the school {Dr. Marion Terenzio} was excited for baseball to be returning to campus.” The President and Athletic Director Mary Irving would not comment more than that.

When current SUNY Cobleskill Freshman Doug Campbell was asked ask about the team returning he said “I want to win a Conference Championships, and expect the team to be good.” Campbell played all four years on Valley Central High School’s varsity team in high school.

“Oh hell yeah” the freshman added when asked if he was excited about getting back onto the field and play baseball again.

The baseball team would add to the school’s growing athletic program in the North Eastern Athletic Conference, who had a change of hand at the top of the athletic department at the beginning of the 2016-17 seasons. The school also replaced the basketball teams coach at the beginning of their season.

The school had no club team in those 6 years, so the team has no building blocks for starting a team. When team has a coach, the team will have a blank slate for ball players.

With the fresh start with the new program starting in 2018, the Fighting Tigers will have an interesting season with a rag-tag roster of players to start off the program.
Thanks to James Feldman and Doug Campbell for letting me interview them for the piece
