Views from far far away- The King’s court
Crazy week in the NBA, and for me it is now officially NBA season with the Super Bowl now come and gone. Lebron, Curry, Harden, Westbrook, and Durant are now at the forefront of the sports spotlight. With the NBA All-Star weekend approaching fast, along with the NBA’s trade deadline it should be a good couple of weeks leading into spring and ultimately the NBA Finals.

Jumping right into my Player of the Week this week, and it is my favorite player in the league; Lebron James. Lebron after being in the spotlight for complaining about the roster to just wanting to play basketball, had a monster week. James hasn’t really been in the spotlight too much this season, which is odd for a Superstar like himself—as well as being a part of the defending champs. James this week averaged 29 points, 12 assists, and 6.5 rebounds. That is usually just a week where he gets covered by ESPN until the pixels die on the monitors, but with James Harden, Russell Westbrook, the entire Golden State Warriors team, and the whole Melo trade debacle; Lebron has taken a backseat. I am a huge fan of Lebron and to see him have a week where he almost averages a triple double and almost 30 points a game is something that brings a smile to my face.

Getting to the Rookie of the Week, and yet again it is not Joel Embiid. Embiid is still on a minute’s restriction from Philadelphia and personally I just want to see him back on the floor. The Rookie class is still not any better with his absence over the past 2 weeks and at this point it won’t get any better. With that said however, the high flying guard from the Suns Marquese Chriss had a great week. The Phoenix Rookie averaged 9.75 points, 3.5 rebounds, 0.5 steals and blocks over that span. Chriss will also be appearing the Slam Dunk Contest in All-Star weekend, and if the performance against Milwaukee last week was any indication, he’ll do some jaw dropping things.

Finishing up with the upcoming schedule for the Association, and it starts off with two good games tonight. Starting at 8PM on TNT the Cavilers go into OKC to play Westbrook and the Thunder, then at 10:30 Isaiah Thomas and the Celtics go into Portland and take on the Trail Blazers and their formidable back court. Moving onto Saturday, which is the game of the week like Duke-Carolina is in college basketball; Kevin Durant’s return to Oklahoma City is for the NBA. Durant and the Warriors get to face off for the first time on the road against Westbrook and the Thunder. I am excited to see this game, and intrigue to see what the crowd sounds like in the return of Durant. That game tips off at 8:30PM EST on ABC. Moving into the work week, there are two games on Monday—one of which is not getting nationwide coverage. The first is the Thunder going into the Nation’s Capital to play John Wall and the Wizards. This game will be the battle of the back courts and should produce a ton of fireworks; the game tips off at 8PM on TNT. The second game is the Clippers going to Salt Lake to face the Jazz and I would like to see that game live, but TNT will be covering Atlanta going to Portland instead. Finally finishing up the week on Wednesday of next week with Paul George going into Cleveland to take on the King at 7PM EST on ESPN. If you want to watch the Knicks get embarrashed by Westbrook and the Thunder at 9:30 be my guest, but I will be tuning into something else. That is all for the week of February 9, make sure you step behind the line when you shoot.
