Day 184

Fresh Start_184: Report card for Brooklyn’s Trade Deadline
What a move by the Nets at the deadline. Getting rid of Bojan Bogdonovic and Chris McCullough for Marcus Thornton, Andrew Nicholson, and a protected lottery pick in the upcoming draft. I knew we would have to get rid of Bogdonovic at the deadline if we wanted to start the rebuild, but I didn’t think the Nets could get a lottery pick for Bogdonovic. Now, McCullough was an unknown in the NBA and I didn’t mind giving him up. I would have liked to keep McCullough to see if he could help being a part of the rebuild, but it doesn’t bother me that he is headed to Washington. Thornton was already a part of the organization in 2014-15 and I like having him as a piece on the team. Nicholson will probably sit the bench or be let go at the end of the year.

Also, something about the deadline that I was also pleased with, is that Brook Lopez wasn’t traded for 50 cents on the dollar. It was reported that the Nets would trade Lopez for a 1st and 2nd instead of two 1st—which would have been idiotic. Just because the Kings settled for less in the Kings trade, didn’t mean that the Nets had to suffer due to undercutting from the market. Brooklyn took the high road and is going to wait to the Summer or until next season to deal Lopez for more assets.

Overall I am pleased with the deadline the Nets had and will give them an A- for what they did. Flipping Bogdonovic was impressive and the team will be much better without Bogdonovic on the team in the long run. This move neutralizes giving up the first round pick to Boston, because at least the Nets will get a crack at the lottery. If luck was really on the side of Brooklyn, the Nets would win the lottery with the pick they just received from the Wizards and the Celtics get the 2nd or 3rd pick in the draft. But, that is up to a bunch of ping pong balls in June.
