Day 180

Fresh Start_180: Just an angry Jet fan
With the NBA in the middle of their All-Star Break and listening to the radio this week, I have to say this to all of my Jet fans. The Jets cannot sign Kirk Cousins, or draft DeShaun Watson with the 6th overall pick. The Jets have more dyer issues than worrying too much about the quarterback situation.

The Jets have Petty and should sign Mike Glennon as the backup just in case DeShaun Watson isn’t there in the second round. Watson is clearly the second best QB in the draft but the Jets don’t have to push the envelope with drafting him. The secondary is the biggest problem for the Jets and needs to be addressed.

Marshon Lattimore from Ohio State needs to be the first draft pick for the Jets. There is no ifs, ands, or buts about it, that has to be the pick. Especially with what has happened to Darrelle Revis this past weekend. The Jets are most likely going to part ways with Revis, and that means the secondary is even more of a concern heading into 2017. The offense will get healthy and using Petty as the number one QB heading into draft night will allow new offensive coordinator John Morton become more comfortable with his new job.

The Jets can maybe, maybe tank in 2017 and go for quarterback Josh Rosen from UCLA in the 2018 draft. That is a possibility, but the job security of both Bowles and Maccagnan have be to be safe for this to happen, it is only far to those two guys. Brandon Marshall shouldn’t be released or traded, nor should Mangold, or anyone else for that matter—besides the obvious with Revis.

The Jets were not a good football team in 2016 and I attribute that to the injuries that plagued the team. If the Jets were healthy the outcome of the season would have been completely different. I’m not saying the Jets would have gone to the Super Bowl, but they could’ve challenged making the playoffs. Having a ton of injuries on both sides of the football isn’t an easy thing to manage—while you sprinkle the amount of talent that was lost to those injuries.

I don’t think Fitzpatrick would be starting at the end of the season, but I cannot throw the book at Bryce Petty just yet. Give the kid that you “groomed” to be the next franchise quarterback more than a handful of games to make his case. Better the offensive line for 2017 and see what Petty can do for you. But, don’t break the bank going after guys like Cousins, Watson, or Romo. The sink isn’t broken just yet, just a bit leaky. And, too all the Jet fans screaming about how bad we were last year, it could have been worse and it really wasn’t that bad—we’ve seen worse. Batten down the hatches and prepare for 2017… Now go watch the 3-point shootout and Slam Dunk Contest.
