Day 101

Fresh Start_101: Get it right the first time
The MLB offseason has now officially begun with the signing of Yoenis Cespesdes to the New York Mets. The deal is $110 Million dollars over four years. This deal makes Cespesdes the highest paid outfielder in the game.

This is a move that was necessary for the Mets moving forward just because it was imperative for this team. Cespesdes is the straw that stirs the drink in Queens and has been for the past two years. When the Mets traded for Cespesdes at the deadline in 2015 it has been an instant change in culture for the Mets. If the Mets didn’t get this deal down and let Cespesdes walk, they would have a huge whole in the outfield where ever you want due to the fact that Cespesdes can play every outfield position. Cespesdes gets paid for a season where he batted .280 with 32 homers and 86 RBI’s and a lack luster 0-4 performance in the Wild Card game.

Right handed power is a limited commodity in the game today and Cespesdes might be the number one rated bat at the way you look at it. The Mets get arguably the best player in free agency in 2016. The Mets also can’t stop here, they had to make this move and fork over the cash to Cespesdes but they also need to improve the team some way somehow. With Bartolo Colon gone, there is a missing whole in the starting rotation, plus with the power closing arms on the open market in 2016, that could be a likely move with Familia being one of the shakiest arms in baseball.

With this signing, Jay Bruce also becomes available in a weird way somehow… The Mets can shop Bruce around the phones and see what they get. This winter might be the winter of trades with the amount of talent that is being reported that is out there. I honestly can’t see the Mets and Bruce parting ways this offseason, because of how important he is to the success of Cespesdes. If you put the dangerous Bruce behind Cespesdes in a healthy Met lineup with Walker and Wright coming back, the Mets can have a legit shot of going back to the playoffs and making noise. To all the Mets fans jumping up and down, you can calm down, and like I said last year in a YouTube video “You can pop your champagne bottles tonight, but you need to get back to business tomorrow.” I couldn’t think of a more appropriate line to say about this Cespesdes signing. Good job by you Mets, now improve on a step back season and actually use some of that money… But not all of it, you have to pay that rotation at some point.
