Day 109

Fresh Start_109: I can’t take it anymore!
I have seen enough of fake news. It gives everyone in the journalism community a bad rap and makes the conversations that are produced due to the fake news incorrect and sometimes intolerable. Many of the stories that I have seen on social media, I have to look after I read it to make sure that it isn’t fake and I can actually use it in a potential article or just talk about it with my friends or family. It makes some newscasts unwatchable because of the deplorable garbage news stories that major news networks are using.

There are some news organizations like the Onion that make a living manipulating the news, and for the most part, the general public knows about this news organization and know that it is fake. People like the “Yes Men” who make up news and go tv pleading “the truth” and even publishing an alternate issue of the New York Times—parading around as if the sky was falling. The height of fake news was most likely at the pressure moments of this past Presidential Election. For anyone that is chanting that Facebook and Twitter are responsible for making Donald Trump the President Elect needs to check into a mental institution. Trump had a plan from the beginning and stock to his guns, and that was enough to make it into the White House. Facebook did go to an algorithm instead of using real people to fact check the stories that were circulating through the site during election, but news doesn’t become news unless people make it news. Journalists write hundreds if not thousands of articles during their time as a writer and not even one makes the front page or any page of the paper.

It’s a hard time to be a journalist when you don’t have the public’s trust to report on the actual news. Journalists have become the closest thing to a corrupt politician in the eyes of the public. If you don’t have the trust of people, or if the people shove “the truth” in your face, the argument and conversation becomes just noise. The headlines are polluted with the lies and the gossip of some 26-year-old that wants to see how far he can push his own joke into the mainstream news. I am just done with this whole issue. It is an issue that wasn’t an enormous problem until recently and I plead to you to help change the perception of news and make these disgraces of the journalism community write their way out of the news and local papers. Anyone can be a journalist now; I just ask that you can start pushing the fake news off of all of the major platforms. Let the conspiracy theorist be, and let them go back to the basement where the conjured up that horrific “news story.”
