Honest Review #14

Honest Review #14- Where is the offensive line?

I don’t know how the losses keep getting worse and worse week after week. As the weeks go along, the team just keeps having brain farts all of the place, particularly on defense. The blown coverages this week were all over the place. The play of the secondary was awful—more specifically the play of the safeties on the Miami wide receivers.

However, this game cannot solely fall on the secondary. The offensive line almost tried to kill the future of the Jets organization aka Bryce Petty. Petty took one of the worst hits I have ever personally seen from Cameron Wake and Suh. Petty didn’t play all that bad given to the situations that he was given thanks to the play of the offensive line. Petty did throw 2 interceptions and only one was his fault. The second interception was a fade route that got rushed due to the pass rush in Petty’s face. Bryce was 20/36 for 235 a touchdowns and those 2 interceptions. I liked our chances going into the 4th quarter with Petty in the game, but that quickly went away when Petty got injured and Ryan Fitzpatrick went into the game. Fitz played like his typical self—throwing an interception on the final play of the game.
The question now arises if Petty can’t go next week against New England, who is under center for the Jets next week? Fitzpatrick will obviously will be the number one option, but will Hackenburg dress for the game next week? The rumors around the Jets have been that Hackenburg will not play this season, but you have to prepare for a possible Fitzpatrick injury.

The offense didn’t help the horrific secondary by going 3 and out for most of the game. Brandon Marshall and Quincy Enunwa did not get open for Petty and that forced Petty to fit the ball into tight windows to Robby Anderson which forces Petty into a ton of mistakes. Matt Forte just disappeared until the 4th quarter. Brandon Marshall and Quincy Enunwa dropped balls that you have to have no matter what. You need to catch the ball when it hits you in the hand. I have been preaching this the entire season, the talent that this team has—not only on offense but all over the product on the field is just unacceptable.

Todd Bowles in his press conference took the blame for everything that happen in that game, and took the fall for his players. Woody Johnson said that Bowels job wasn’t in jeopardy going into the game against San Francisco last week, but after back to back embarrassing home losses, does Johnson’s mind change about the head man of the Jets? The season is unquestionably over, but there are a ton of question marks sounding gang green. The number one question though in my head is how do we fix the offensive line?
