Day 252
Fresh Start_252: Here’s the first pitch… and the season’s
over
Being in New York and a
New York sports fan, there has always been at least two teams in each of the
major sports. Being a Yankee, Jet, Ranger, and Net fan I have always had slack
from Met fans, Giant fans, Islander and Devil fans, and let’s not forget to the
Knicks. With that, there always a team that “runs the town” with the other
always being in the shadow. The Jets have done it for years and as a Jet fan it
drives me crazy, but it also happens for the New York Mets.
As a Yankee fan talking
about the Mets always seems to have a stench that Met fans almost never want to
come to terms with. Listening to the Michael Kay Show last week, the
conversation of the injuries with Cespesdes and Syndergaard and the way they
were handled. Waking up this morning with the Syndergaard news of him possibly
being out for 3 months after having an MRI that revealed a partially torn right
lat muscle. And being a Yankee fan, I just can’t help but be concerned that the
Mets are a dumpster fire that can’t be put out. I like having both the Mets and
Yankees relevant in the city of New York, and that doesn’t mean that I want the
Mets to do well by any means, but it makes conversations about baseball better.
The way the Mets are run
and the ability to not take care of your players is just absolutely unacceptable,
and shouldn’t be allowed. It’s concerning that the way Mets run their
organization can sit here on May 1st and allow their players to be
stubborn and get hurt. The health of players should be the number one concern
of your franchise. You should not allow your players or manager to put the
players of your franchise in harm’s way and make the injury worse.
Baseball is not like
football, the money is guaranteed, so why do the players want to keep running
out there day in and day out to get injured worse? In the case of Cespesdes to
a lesser degree and Syndergaard to a greater degree, the health of yourself to
play the game of baseball is the most important thing. Why Syndergaard wants to
battle a possible injury and pitch in a late April game in Washington is behind
me. Syndergaard is probably out 3 months with that lat injury, because he doesn’t
want to get an MRI. The long-term health of an individual to play the game for
many years is the big picture.
As a franchise, shut
these guys down. Period. End of story there is nothing to say from here. Something
needs to change in the franchise and put these players in their place, get them
healthy, and try and compete for a championship.
