In between the Pinstripes #29

In between the Pinstripes_29: Little League Mercy Rule
History proved to be on the side of the Yankees again tonight, with the offensive explosion that happen in Chicago against the defending champs. Brett Anderson didn’t last a full inning going; 0.1 inning, giving up 6 hits, 5 earned runs, striking out one, and only throwing 23 pitches. Anderson didn’t have it tonight and the bombers did what they have been doing to mediocre pitching, and that’s hit it hard and often. On the flip side the rookie southpaw Jordan Montgomery looked like the veteran, going 6.2, surrendering 3 hits, 3 runs, walking 4, and striking out 3. Montgomery did throw 100 pitches again, and it is a National League park, but if he wants to go deeper—he’ll have to continue to try to better his command throughout the entirety of the start.

Getting right into it; the Focus Player of the Day has to be “the other Aaron” Aaron Hicks. Hicks had a huge day going; 4-5, 3 RBI’s, 3 runs scored, and a game sealing 3-run homer in the 8th. Hicks has been playing well in limited at-bats so far in the year, and Brian Cashman has once again proven himself right with the trade to get Hicks last offseason. His bat has turned around to complement the glove and strong throwing arm—to make Hicks a viable 4th outfield option.

Looking ahead to Sunday Night Baseball; it’s a heavyweight pitching matchup between the young flame throwing righty Luis Severino and the always reliable Jon Lester. Lester is coming off an uncharacteristic performance against Philly were he only went 5 innings, gave up 4 hits, 3 runs (2 earned), walked 5, and stroke out 5. He did get the win, but not the best of outings from Lester. In his career against the bombers, Lester is tough on the bombers (which the Cubs will need trying to avoid being sweep) being 13-6 with a 3.78 ERA in 29 starts with a .266 batting average against in 174 innings. Severino is coming off his first real hiccup of the season getting knocked around by the Blue Jays at The Stadium. Severino went 5.2, giving up 8 hits, 5 runs, walking 2, and striking out 3 in a losing effort. Hopefully the bombers catch Lester on a bad night and they ride every MPH on Severino’s fastball to a sweep of the reigning champs—catapulting them into a possible one and half game lead over Baltimore. But, for now, you can “Start spreading the news” the Yankees won yet another series and are going for the sweep tomorrow under the lights at Wrigley, should be another fun day at the ball park.
