Day 280

Fresh Start_280: From the top to rock bottom
Well I wasn’t expecting to wake up to a gnarly mug shot of Tiger Woods following his DUI arrest early this morning. Woods was arrested at 3 AM Monday morning—producing his flattering mugshot that will certainly make back pages around the country.

There is no question that the 14-time Major Champion’s fall from grace is unprecedented. At the peak of Wood’s career, no athlete could come within 100 miles of the magnitude that Woods had on the golf course. Not Michael, Armstrong, Ruth, or Lebron could reach the god-like persona that Woods had on his competition.

If Tiger had the lead going into Sunday, it was pretty much money in the bank that we would walk away with the big check after 18 holes. Woods was as sure of thing to win the Major when he went into the final day leading, and looked like the Golden Goose that would break Jack Nicklaus record of 18 Majors before the tailspin his career took in 2009. From crashing his Escalade to TMZ releasing his affairs with other women during his marriage, leading to his divorce, loss of sponsorships, and first break from golf.

Woods would later have a slew of injuries starting with leg surgery in April of 2011. Woods would have four back surgery’s after his leg surgery (April 2014, September 2015, October 2015, and April 2017) before the news broke this morning.

Tiger Woods return to golf hasn’t been a walk in the park, and with this DUI arrest won’t do him any favors. This reopens the conversation of whether or not Woods should just give up trying to return to the PGA Tour and just retire. The Tiger Woods that was the dominate force on the golf course—that had many of his peers scared to play him is turning into a shell of himself falling faster that any athlete we have ever seen. Woods is turning into the drunk college friend that you have to keep tabs on just trying to help them graduate. Woods at this point is better off retiring from golf, disappearing for a few years doing whatever his heart desires, ultimately getting out of the major spotlight he has put on himself, and coming back like an old friend making a few public appearances.

Tiger Woods 14 Major wins are turning into a distant memory and for this generation it seems like a completely different person. I am extremely compelled to see what Scott Van Pelt says about his longtime friends most recent arrest. Routing for a Woods return is becoming harder and harder, although it would be as unprecedented at this point as his fall to his current state.
