In between the Pinstripes #25
In between the
Pinstripes_25: Toronto definitely knows
it’s May 1st
Some nights are just not
your night. You can’t play perfect baseball every night, and you can’t win
every night. The chips just stacked up right for the Blue Jays tonight with
Estrada on the mound tonight. Estrada pitches well against the bombers and he
has been pitching well to end April. Severino after having a great 7-inning
shutout performance in Boston, he just didn’t have the command of his fastball
or that good tight slider that he has had so far this season. It seems today
that Severino only had the command of his changeup and Toronto knew that.
Severino’s line was: 5.2
innings, 8 hits, 5 earned runs, 2 walks, and 3 strike outs on 105 pitches. The
Blue Jays just hit Severino hard and worked a lot of counts. Tonight, Severino
had plenty of velocity showcased when he threw (101, 100, 101) on his 99th,
100th, and 101st pitch of the game—but he was throwing
tonight not pitching. This seems like an outing that Severino would have had
last season, not the 2017 season so far. But again, some nights you just don’t
have your stuff. Estrada did and went to town against the Yanks tonight, giving
up 1 run on 7 hits in 7 innings, with no walks and 7 strike outs.
It’s safe to say that
tonight was a night, where the Yanks just didn’t play a full nine innings.
After having an emotionally draining series like the series against Baltimore
this past weekend, it is tough to show up the night after. The Focus Player of
the Day has to go to the most consistent Yankee so far this season; Starlin
Castro. Starlin went 2-4 with the only run scored tonight, and he is just
mashing the ball being that he is batting .352 so far this season with 5
homers, 16 RBI’s and 15 runs scored.
Getting into tomorrow’s
game, the Bronx will be running on Tanaka Time. Masahiro Tanaka takes the ball
against Mat Latos. Latos is coming off a 6-inning start where he got a no
decision giving up 3 hits, no runs, 4 walks, and 4 strike outs in St. Louis.
Latos has limited action against the bombers only facing them one time and
going 5.2 innings, giving up 9 hits, 3 runs, and a .346 batting average against.
Tanaka on the other hand is coming off a 3-hit shutout against the Red Sox and
looks to continue to be the ace that the Yankees need. The team has dropped two
in a row, so you could say they need a stopper, and Tanaka could be just that.
