Day 276

Fresh Start_276: Second teams in the city grab the headlines
Why can’t players keep their mouths shut in New York. Jets Defensive End Sheldon Richardson said “Let's just say there are 15 reasons why it's better” about former Jets wide out Brandon Marshall. Marshall’s comments about Richardson’s comment was “…I’m a Giant now and I’m so excited for this opportunity. I’m working my butt off to learn the plays… I feel like a rookie again, and I kind of like that feeling.” Marshall took the high road, and was the veteran about this situation, while Richardson seems like the problem in the Jet locker room.

Richardson had 62 combined tackles (38 total, 24 assisted) with only 1.5 sacks with 2 pass deflections in 15 games. Richardson got paid $3.1 Million last year and this year is getting $8 Million to hopefully get more than 1.5 sacks. Richardson looked like he could possibly play Outside Linebacker in 2016 after a 5 sack and 35 combine tackle season. Now, trading Richardson seems like the correct move to get rid of the headache that he has become over his tenure with the Jets.

The Jets look to rebuild and try to fill all of the holes in the defense, their tight-end problem, and their offensive line woes. The Jets won’t be good this upcoming season, and the nonsense that will come out of Richardsons’ mouth will make the headlines, putting the Jets rebuild on the back burner. Richardson can still wield multiple picks; preferably a second and third round pick. There are plenty of teams that need a pass rusher on the edge that are potential playoff teams and Richardson is a good fit.

May God go easy on the Jets in 2017.
