Day 42

Fresh Start_42: Thank You Tex
So yesterday was the last day Mark Teixeira will ever play in Major League Baseball. Teixeira finishes with a .269 batting average, a .510 slugging percentage, a .870 OPS, 1,682 hits, 409 home runs, and 1,298 RBI’s. Tex was a cornerstone piece for eight seasons in the Bronx and loved by many throughout the eight years. Teixeira was the first baseman of this generation, just like Don Mattingly was for the previous. The golden glove that Teixeira had will be taken for granted if Greg Bird, his replacement, can’t step up. In his career in pinstripes Tex was one of the most productive Yankees in recent memory. You knew what you were going to get out of Teixeira each and every day that he was in the lineup. Teixeira finishes his Yankee career with a .234 average, 843 hits, 206 homers, and 622 RBI’s. When Tex got to the Bronx he added the missing piece to a very good infield and added protection in the number three hole for Damon and Jeter.
The legacy of Mark Teixeira in the Bronx will be a winning one. The first four years of his Yankee career were as good as one could get. The last four were riddled with injuries and the fan base asking “What if?” many times over. The presence in the club house and on the field will be missed in the Bronx. Even in his last game in the Bronx yesterday, Tex flashed the leather one last time stealing an extra base hit away from Baltimore Orioles catcher Matt Weiters. Teixeira in his last Yankee and Red Sox series has a walk-off grand slam and draw just one more moment in the great rivalry. That also, by Teixeira’s wish was his last home run of his career.
Dear Mark,
Thank you Mark for everything you given die hard Yankee fans like me throughout your career, I really do apriciate it and I will miss you dearly. I hope you have a long and happy retirement with your family and you are always welcome back in the big Yankee family. You are one of the modern greats. I wish you well.
Sincerely,
A die-hard fan
