Day 56
Fresh Start_56: Brady and Bledsoe Part II
There is an interesting
predicament in the city of Dallas. After the 30-16 win in Green Bay, the Dallas
Cowboys are now 5-1 heading into their bye week. The fourth round rookie Dak
Prescott had yet another good game going 18/27 two hundred and forty-seven yards
and three touchdowns. Prescott has looked great through the first six weeks of
the season, taking any challenge he has faced head on—cool, calm, and
collected. The rookie has surprised many—me included—with his poise in the
pocket and under pressure. Through the first six games of his career; Prescott
has completed 69% of his passes, only throwing four touchdowns, but hasn’t
thrown an interception yet. The low touchdown total is in part to his backfield
partner Ezekiel Elliot leading the league in rushing with five hundred and
forty-six yards.
With all of this success,
I have to give credit to the Dallas offensive line, which is the best in the
league in my opinion. The O Line is a big factor in all of this, but then again
the players behind the line have to make plays.
Where this gets interesting is, the fact that
Prescott is playing so well heading into the bye week, and Tony Romo is set to
comeback after the bye against the Philadelphia Eagles. Owner Jerry Jones has
said that Romo is the quarterback for the team, but with the play of Prescott,
you have to at least rethink the decision to start Romo. The team has won more
games this year with Prescott then the team won all of last year. This
situation is almost identical to the same situation the New England Patriots
went through in 2001 following the Drew Bledsoe injury. Bledsoe never played
another down for the Patriots in his career, giving the rains to who else… Tom
Brady!
I am not comparing
Prescott to Brady because that would be just ridiculous to think the two of
them were anything alike. Personally I would take Prescott over Romo at this
point in the pairs respective careers, due to the fact that Romo is a walking
injury concern. You honestly have no idea how Romo will react to a hit and whether
he will be able to get up after the fact. Prescott has been efficient to the
point of almost perfection and the team is winning. Not only that, but the
chemistry is healthy and good, with Dez Bryant coming back after the bye.
Either way you couldn’t
go wrong, but if you decide to take Romo over Prescott it will be an
interesting turn of events. The Cowboys could have the option of trading
Prescott to a team that needs a QB and get a haul of picks back to improve the
needed areas. If America’s Team picks the young buck Prescott over Romo, the
Cowboys will have to cut Romo due to his contract and how much cap he would be
eating up to back up Prescott. The Cowboys have a good problem at Quarterback
and it will be very intriguing to see what Dallas does.
