Day 46

Fresh Start_46: Tiger
Well, Tiger is back and the golf world is all over the place. This is coming off a U.S. Ryder Cup win with Tiger was an honorary captain. I don’t know if he is 100% but the Ryder Cup looks like it lit a fire under the all-time great. With the emotions going on in golf from the death of Arnold Palmer to the Ryder Cup drama. All of this has seemed to make Tiger want to turn the clock back and channel the old days. Personally I am skeptical of what we might see from Tiger in the Safeway Open. The PGA season is at the end of the year and the late attempt at a win by Tiger is surprising. I would think Tiger would take this momentum that he is feeling into next season, and compete for a major.
I get why Tiger would pick an event like this… no pressure. It is the end of the year and to Tiger there is no added pressure of a major looming over his head on the course. Tiger can just go out and play golf. It’s been over a year since he was played in an event so we will see what he has left. It isn’t easy coming back from a back injury in golf. This isn’t Tommy John surgery in baseball or ACL surgery in football. The back is the most important muscle in the game of golf. If you don’t have a back, well first you can’t walk really, second you have no golf swing. I feel for Tiger and what he has to have endured with his injuries at this stage in his career.
I can’t help but think the game of golf has moved on from the Tiger Era. There are younger, more exiting players in the game, and this feels like a last effort from Tiger. The Safeway Open in the mind of the press has become the Masters with the news that Tiger is back, and I also believe the young golfers that grew up idolizing Tiger will come out and want to show the great up. I will be tuning in every now and then, with playoff baseball and the Jets on, my priorities are already set.
