Day 60

Fresh Start_60: I love this game
I love the game of baseball, and last night was one of the many games that just reminds me of why I love the game. The game last night in Los Angeles was every bit of a roller coaster ride as ever. The game started as a pitcher’s duel until the six inning where Addison Russell hit a two run bomb to center giving the Cubs new life in the series and energizing the team to go on and have a five run eighth inning and going onto win the game and take the lead in the series.

The first five innings were so tense and just everything a playoff baseball should be. Kenta Maeda was having some trouble in the first couple of innings, throwing seventy-six pitches in 3 2/3 innings. The Cubs were backed by a great performance by their best pitcher Jon Lester. The M.O. on Lester is that he can’t throw over to any base. It has been proven throughout Lester’s career, highlighted by Lester not throwing over throughout his stint with the Boston Red Sox. Lester has thrown the ball to the tarp multiple times in his short Cub career, and last night stared the Dodgers in the face and dared them to run. The Dodgers were, for some reason, didn’t run on Lester. The Dodgers were taking insane leads that you wouldn’t even see someone take off of second base. The Dodgers were dancing over at first like it was their prom night. Lester never threw over and probably never will. Instead, Lester puffed out his chest and just straight dealt last night. Lester went seven full with six strikeouts and one hundred and eight pitches. Lester this post season is 2-0 with a 0.69 ERA, and in twenty-one innings in three games pitched.

With that said, the series still isn’t over. Clayton Kershaw is going to the hill for Dodgers on Saturday night in Chicago.  Kyle Hendricks opposes Kershaw and Game Six on Saturday has the making of an old-fashion boxing match where Hendricks and Kershaw go pitch for pitch. I am so excited for this game and if this is any indication of what is to come in the World Series is incredible. The Cubs have all the momentum having at worst, two games at home with two of the best pitchers in the game. Kershaw has a once in a life time type of couple weeks. This is coming off of a playoff career that hasn’t been up to par with who he is as a pitcher, and that has been well documented. I am not liking the chances of the Dodgers based off of the way the Cubs have been playing in the past two games and the playoffs as a whole. I know that Kershaw has been pitching out of his mind, but it can’t keep happening. I like Kershaw and I think he is the best left handed pitcher of my generation and I want the game to be everything that it has been hyped up to be. It would make a great story for Kershaw and the Dodgers, even more if they win, and I am hoping for an incredible game. However, with the number of pitchers and innings that Kershaw has thrown in the past pitches and not pitching for the entire month of August I have my concerns of how much gas Kershaw has left in the tank for the season. We will see on Saturday at 8PM EST on FS1, BE THERE!
