Day 55

Fresh Start_55: Raise the W
WHAT A GAME! If you missed Game One of the NLCS you missed an instant classic. The Cubs didn’t stump on the Dodgers like I predicted but what we got instead was an absolute classic. Jon Lester didn’t pitch that bad going six innings only giving up four hits and one run. Kenta Maeda did what I expected, only going four giving up three runs. But, when Lester exited the game, that’s when the fun started. Pedro Strop couldn’t get an out in the eighth inning loaded the bases and forcing the hand of Joe Madden to go to Aldoris Chapman with no outs and the bases loaded in the eighth. Chapman almost shut the door on the Dodger rally, when an 0-2 one hundred and three mile per hour fastball leaked over the heart of the plate and Adrian Gonzalez smacked it into center plating the tying runs.
Fast forward to the bottom of the inning where the Cubs have a rally of their own, starting with a lead-off double by Ben Zobrist. After two intentional walks to Jason Hayward and Chris Coghlen Miguel Montero stepped to the plate. Down 0-2 to Joe Blanton, Montero (who didn’t have a hit in the series) drives the hardest hit ball into the right field seats and spiraling Wrigley Field into pandemonium. Watching on TV, the stadium looked like it was shaking. The entire city of Chicago most likely went into an uproar when the grand slam. Oh, and on top of the grand slam, Dexter Fowler crushes the very next pitch into the right field seats, completely taking the wind out the Dodger comeback, and ultimately putting an overall cloud over the team for the rest of the game. There is something about playoff baseball on the North Side of Chicago, and it is can’t miss television. I am almost glad the Yankees aren’t in the race this year, because of the great games that have ensued in the playoffs so far.
Games like the one yesterday are the reason why playoff baseball is the best type of postseason play. Hockey is a very close second, but baseball gives incredible moment each and every time. Now, something that I took away from this game is that Los Angeles cannot keep having their starters only go four innings or fewer and expect to win the game. The Cubs are the best team in baseball for a reason, and you can’t just get lucky against this team like the Dodgers did last series with the Nationals. The rest of the series is going to be great and you should not miss a minute of it. Game Two is tonight at 8PM EST on FS1, BE THERE!
