Honest Recap #4

Honest Recap #4: Turning Tides
Well the Jets lost again, and it was a game that they had to have. Not to discredit a great team in Seattle, because they are a really good team with a great resume. The Seahawks did make the Superbowl in back to back years and almost made it three consecutive. The Jets missed Eric Decker in many ways of the offensive and just could get everything clicking on offense. Matt Fortè couldn’t get anything on the ground against the stout run defense of Seattle, going for only twenty-seven yards on fourteen rushes. Fitzpatrick continues to struggle throwing three more picks this week. Two of which changed the game. The first one which was picked by Richard Sherman was the changing point of the game. The Jets were driving to tie the game up and Fitz went to Brandon Marshall and the back shoulder throw just one too many times. Sherman would anticipate the throw and intercept it, leading to a touchdown that made the Seahawk lead fourteen. The second most important pick ended the game, and guess who, Richard Sherman got his second the day on an under-thrown ball from Fitzpatrick. The one in between wasn’t Fitzpatrick’s fault with it being popped up in the air and picked off.
I never thought I would even consider putting Geno Smith back in at quarterback, but if I am Todd Bowles you have to consider it. The way that Ryan Fitzpatrick is playing is detrimental to the success of the Jets. The defense did bend but it didn’t break that much in the game with the field position that it was given. However, Darrelle Revis did get hurt in the fourth quarter, and the defense didn’t know who Jimmy Graham was for the majority of the game. I have to give credit to Russell Wilson playing through the pain and performing really well, going 23/32 three hundred and nine yards and three touchdowns. The Jets have to reevaluate the way they are preparing and executing the game plan. I am not going to attack Todd Bowels because it is not his fault for the most part. Bowels is doing his job well, and the offense with Fitzpatrick and Chan Gailey at the helm are not doing their respective jobs. The impressive numbers that offense had last year is not working with the weapons that Jets have this year. And I hate to finally admit it but the Jets need to get a tight-end. My grandmother for the past couple of weeks has been saying that the Jets need a tight-end because of their inability of covering a dominate tight-end. The past two weeks being a prime example with Travis Kelce and Jimmy Graham. The Jets did go out and signed Austin Seferian Jenkins, the former Tampa Bay Bucs tight end, on Monday following the loss to the Chiefs.
Now following the loss to Seattle, the Jets sit at 1-3 with an uphill battle ahead of them. Not only are they facing a tough schedule that includes Arizona and Pittsburgh in the next couple of weeks, but they are also falling out of the playoff race. A quarter of the season is over and the Jets have some glairing holes on the team. As I opened I think for Bowels you need to at least give Geno Smith some reps with the first team offense this week. If Fitzpatrick plays any worse he won’t survive that much longer as the Jets QB, with how emotional us Jets fans can be. Don’t completely ride Fitz off to sea but the leash is getting shorter with every bad decision. HOPEFULLY, Jets fans everywhere can sleep well and have some faith left after yet another bad loss at the hands of a good playoff team. On to Pittsburgh, and as always Let’s go J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS!
