Day 48

Fresh Start_48: Yankee Season in review
162 games down, and zero to go. After getting eliminated last year in the Wild Card game to the Houston Astros, the New York Yankees have come a long way since April. I have said on this blog before, when the Yankee season ends I get sad, and just need to take a few days. Well it has been a week since the end of the season, the playoffs have started and boy have they been good. I have mustard up enough to write this end of season review. The beginning of the season was one of the slowest starts and the suspension of Alrodis Chapman looming over their heads for the first month of the season. When May 1st came around Chapman pitched and got a save throwing a one hundred and two miles per hour fastball—showing Yankee fans what the future might hold for the Yankees.
Fast forward to end of June and beginning of July when the bombers started to skid and everyone besides Carlos Beltran started to go into a slump. With the front office split of selling, GM Brian Cashman turned the farm system into the best in baseball, flipping Chapman, Beltran, and Andrew Miller. Calling up Gary Sanchez at the end of July, which happened to be the best decision that the front office made all year. Sanchez had the best season at the plate that any rookie had in the history of the game. Not only that, but Sanchez can hold his own behind the plate—calling a good game and throwing runners out.
The future of the franchise is looking great and personally I am in love with the direction the team is going from here on out. I was cautious when reports were coming out that the team was not going to sell at the deadline. The reinforcements are here and with selling out at the deadline more are on the way. Brian Cashman has proven yet again, that he is capable of building another great team that has an ability to compete for another championship. I wasn’t expecting much from the season, it was fun while it lasted. The grade I would give the 2016 season is a modest B-. Even without the playoffs, the team improved for the future and that’s all Yankee fans can ask for. I am more excited for the 2017 season and am happy for things to come.
