Day 54

Fresh Start_54: Prepare for the Worst
Yesterday was a big day for the video game world. The new Call of Duty title “Infinite Warfare” launched their beta to the public, and was it a disaster. The thing that many of you need to understand that launch day servers usually are bad. The online servers for the Infinite Warfare beta were absolutely abysmal. The beta was set to launch at 10 AM PST and was late due to an issue with the Playstation Network, delaying the beta about an hour and a half. After the wait, the servers were not done. About 2PM EST the servers just completely shut down, now I thought Infinity Ward and Raven Studios—the two companies that made the game would have some server issues and I figured the servers would not be live for a couple hours, but not six plus hours. This game that will be out in stores in only two weeks has not been a popular title in the community due to the fact that the community has had enough with the style of game. The two previous titles for Call of Duty has been a futuristic theme and was popular at first but got stale extremely quick.
I due give some credit to Infinity Ward for the title and for embracing the futuristic spin only because the game was a year into production when the community flipped the script on the futuristic style shooter. I will also give the studio credit for making the game not completely a carbon copy of the previous title so far. From my experience with the beta it is a futuristic theme shooter, but it plays smooth and extremely fast. The Infinite Warfare Beta has everything that makes the game of Call of Duty fun. But what I cannot give them credit for and what the studios have been heckled for is how terrible the online servers have been. The head of the studios and the development team behind the game had to expect an enormous turn out for the beta given how large the Call of Duty community and fan base is. Also the full game is set to release on November 4th which is only about two weeks away. That’s were for me, this is unacceptable. Yes, on any launch day the online servers are due to have problems with the amount of people that want to play. But, with the full game so close to release there is some concern for me with how reliable the servers will be when the full game is out. I am not even putting into perspective how the professional players and the Youtube community—who rely on this game to make them their daily income feel. With the lack of servers, the content isn’t available and they cannot reach their personal community and make the video or get the games in needed to compete. Also putting aside the fun factor of the game the main take away that Infinity Ward and Raven Studios need to have regardless of any stats for the game, is the issues that the servers were having yesterday during launch. When those issues are addressed this title for the franchise will exceed any that have come before it!

*I understand that this isn’t a usual Fresh Start, I just wanted to write down my feelings about this topic and as I have hinted at before, I will be using this series of articles for in the future discussing other things. The daily sports content will resume tomorrow and will be just as good as always.*
