Day 70

Fresh Start_70: Drink the “Hater”ade
Is there too many revenge stories in the NBA? Let me give you just a few examples, Russell Westbrook on Durant, Anthony Davis against the league, and the Warriors against the Cavs. It seems like hate is at the roots at the excitement of every NBA game. Not saying that is a bad thing, it is just odd for the NBA. Lebron James was the “angry” player, the one looking for revenge against multiple people or teams in the league throughout the past six years. That Lebron has come and gone, like the monkey lifted off the shoulders of Cleveland thanks to that same man. This season and for the years to come, we will see a content Lebron James. There is nothing for James to do, then pad his Hall of Fame career, and build up his off court brand. James has done everything asked of him in his career, and will be care free playing the game he loves, and that in itself is scary. A peaceful Lebron might be more dangerous than the one that was on a mission.

Westbrook on the other hand, has everything to mad about in his situation. One of the top five players in the league just left his team, and went to the team that eliminated them from the playoffs. Not only that, but that same player has torched the organization and their staff and players for how it was run. Those shots by Kevin Durant has seemed to be directly aimed at Westbrook. Why? I have no idea, and why you make a guy that already plays like his life is on the line every game, extra motivation, doesn’t seem like a good idea. The hatred fueled by Durant aimed toward Oklahoma City, might come back and bit them in the back side come June. The chemistry in Oklahoma City hasn’t been disrupted and if the team needed any more motivation to obliterate Golden State, it is not provided. What Durant has done to his former team, is childish and not the behavior of a champion. That city was the outlet for Durant, and following the Tornado a couple years back, he was theirs.
Anthony Davis, on the other hand, has been tossed to the curb by NBA executives and fans to boot after a couple of injuries. The league has seemed to forget to how good Davis truly is, and seems to be surprised when he puts up monster numbers.  Davis seems to be driven to prove the league wrong about his game and amount of talent. Davis had an opening night for the ages, going for 50 points, 15 rebounds, 5 assists, 5 steals, and 4 blocks. Davis has shocked the entire league with the performance and they shouldn’t have. Davis extremely underrated and overlooked by majority of the league. He was once considered a franchise starter just a mere two years ago. Karl Anthony-Towns has since replaced him in that role. The hatred toward the league has fueled his play and perhaps going onto a MVP season, but it is too early to tell.

If anyone that I am talking about is the Golden State Warriors. The Warriors have established a rivalry with the Cavs like the Pistons and Lakers in the late 80’s. The Warriors have dominated everyone in the NBA except the Cavs being driven to the cusp in each of the NBA Finals they have played in. Many fans are looking forward to the trilogy which is most likely going to happen. I am predicting the Thunder and Cavs in the Finals but that is just me. We will see if the now “Superteam” and dethrone the King.
